Gourmet Coffee has been around in Maumelle, Arkansas for over sixty years. Gourmet Coffee is a family-owned business that specializes in flavored coffee. They offer a variety of flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. The first Gourmet Coffee shop opened up in the early 1970s. It was located on Main Street near theArkansas State Fairgrounds. They were known for their quality beans and delicious products. In 2007, they moved to their current location on Garland Avenue near Riverside High School. Their mission is to provide “the best coffee in town” with unique flavor profiles and freshness always being top priority. Today, Gourmet Coffee has three cafes open statewide: Arkansas (Fayetteville), Missouri (St Louis), and Texas (Houston). In addition to this nationwide presence, they also operate two cafés inside the Loop of Maumelle – one called Gumbo Joe’s Café and the other called The Catcher in the Rye Café. They have always been stand-alone businesses; however, recent expansions have allowed them to work together with local breweries for various projects including collaborative brewing endeavors with Allagash Brewing Company and Hiwassee Brewing Company in St Louis County and Sam Adams Brewery in Houston County.

The Arkansas Coffee Company was founded in Maumelle, Arkansas in 1907. The company became the largest coffee producer in the state and exported its beans all over the world. It was purchased by JB Henson's Coffee Corporation in 1948 and renamed Alcoa Coffee. In 1970, it merged with JT Henson's Coffee Company to become Henson-Alcoa Coffee Corporation.
Maumelle, Arkansas is a town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 6,494 at the 2000 census. The name means "plain of Maumelle." The first European to visit the area was French trader Jean-Baptiste Chouteau in 1819. He named the area after his hometown of Mâcon, France. In 1836, Cherokee Indian George Catlett founded what is now Maumelle as a trading post on the Arkansas River. The post was destroyed by Chinese traders in 1839 but it reopened two years later with new traders and settlers. A post office was established at Maumelle in 1841 and remained open until 1895. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. The climate in this part of Arkansas varies from hot summers withashes of 100 degrees or more during Spring into Fall to cold winters wherezero degrees or less is common during most months (except for January). The population of Maumelle grew rapidly during the early 1900s due to its location on the Arkansas River and its access to railroad transportation. Maumelle was founded in 1839 by John A. Maumelle and his wife, Emeline. The town was named after General Maumelle, who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1865, the town was renamed for General Nathaniel Banks, who served as Ulysses S. Grant's senior military advisor during the American Civil War. The town experienced a growth spurt following World War II with the arrival of many soldiers and their families. In 1957, Maumelle became an incorporated city.
