The Magnolia National Guard Gift History can be traced back to September of 1898 when the Arkansas National Guard was organized. At that time, it consisted of only a few men and women. The first gift given to the guard was a rifle. The Arkansas National Guard Museum in Little Rock, Ark., has an exclusive copy of this rifle which is still on display today. In 1902, the Arkansas Legislature created the Magnolia County Sheriff's Department and appropriated $5,000 for its purchase. This gift allowed for the formation of a county police force in Magnolia County. In 1912, Governor Orval Faubus raised money from property owners in downtown Magnolia to establish the Arkansas State University School of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. This donation also enabled state funding for building additions to campus which are still visible today: The George Biddle Center for Agricultural Sciences and Technology and Faubus Tower. Throughout its history, the Arkansas National Guardsmen have been generous donors with their time and resources. Throughout 1919-1920 alone, they gave over 1,500 hours of service to local charities including Mercy Hospital & Children’s Aid Society (now known as Baptist Health), First Baptist Church (Little Rock), Clarksdale Methodist Episcopal Church (Clarksdale) and more! In 1938-1939, during World War II, manyArkansas men served in military units throughout the United States including those stationed at Camp Forrest outside Of Hot Springs Village near Wynneville in Searcy County; Fort Smith (later Fort Smith Army Base); Carswell Air Force Base; El Dorado Barracks; Weldon Field; Richardson Air Force Base; Canyon de Chelly Army Range northwest of Topeka; Glynis Home Park near Ankeny where several thousand soldiers were housed while they underwent training....Magnolia citizens also proudly joined forces with other patriotic communities throughout our state as members of both local volunteer organizations such as tank companies or mechanics groups attached to regiments abroad...This type of wartime mobilization goes back many years - even before World War I."

Magnolia is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. Magnolia is the county seat of Pulaski County and the only municipality in Arkansas with a population over 10,000 residents. The first permanent settler in Magnolia was Augustus Holmes who arrived in 1819. A post office called Holmesville was established in 1829, and continued to be used until 1895. The name Magnolia comes from a tree that stands near the original post office site. The first courthouse in Magnolia was built by J.H. Walton in 1839 and still stands today as the county courthouse building. In 1870, John Waddell platted what is now Magnolia Township on land he had purchased from David Henshaw for $5 per acre (approximately $140 per square mile). By 1872, all of present-day Pulaski County had been organized and Magnolia became the county seat of Pulaski County under legislation passed by Congress during its second session (March 4th through April 2nd, 1870). A new jail was erected on the corner of Main Street and Cemetery Road around 1900; it burned down on October 25th, 1907. The first schoolhouse was built on Cemetery Road around 1892; it burned down on January 6th, 1915; however, a new schoolhouse/church were constructed soon after this fire as part of a larger project to improve education opportunities for local citizens. The first dentist practicing medicine in Arkansas arrived to practice here circa 1912 when Drury Soper came from Fayetteville; he opened his surgery at 701 Main Street which later became known as Soper's Drive-in Theatre . In 1916 Snively & Weed moved their dental practice to what is now 918 North Highway 52 about two blocks east of downtown Magnolia - this location would remain unchanged until current day and has been home to many businesses including Swensen's grocery store since 1956! Magnolia experienced significant growth following World War II with increased industrialization and development across much of central Arkansas resulting in an influx of workers into the area including many women who took up employment within munitions plants during wartime . The National Guard was first activated in 1792 as a militia to protect the fledgling United States. The Guards were initially used for drill and guard duty, but soon became more important due to the increased tensions between the United States and Great Britain following the Boston Tea Party. In 1812, President James K. Polk authorized the creation of an army within the National Guard as a way to ensure that America would not become embroiled in another European war. The army grew rapidly and by 1828, there were over 125,000 guardsmen in service. During World War I, 1 million men from across America served in uniform; however, only 5% of all Guardsmen died in battle. The majority of Guardsmen died from disease or accidents while serving. After World War I ended, many Guard members returned home and continued their service until they were discharged or retired at age 70 (or later).
Magnolia, Arkansas was founded in 1871 by Charles H. and Bertha Ann Mercer. The town was named after the magnolia tree, which is found throughout the area. The Mercer family began farming in the area and soon realized that there were many potential resources to be mined in this region. They started extracting coal and other minerals from nearby hills, and soon became very rich. In 1923, they donated all of their land to the state of Arkansas for development into a city. As Magnolia grew, it attracted people from all over the United States, including many who had come to mining regions such as West Virginia or Colorado. By 1940, Magnolia had become one of the most important cities in Arkansas. It quickly became an industrial center for the state, manufactureuing everything from tires to paper products. However, during World War II (1939-1945), Magnolia was hit hard by conflict and poverty; many of its citizens served in military camps or worked on production lines while their families suffered financially. In 1946, Mayor Waddell helped create a special committee to help rebuild the city after it was ravaged by war damage. This committee eventually created several parks and new businesses within Magnolia itself; these have continued to make it a thriving community today.
