The Jonesboro Army Depot was established in 1892 as the first Army Depot in Arkansas. It served as a storage and distribution center for artillery, ordnance, and other military supplies during World War I. In 1940, the depot became an armory and was renamed the Jonesboro Armaments Center. The center supported Armor and Infantry units during World War II. After the war, the armory became a training ground for new officers and enlisted personnel.
