The Hot Springs, Arkansas Coast Guard Station was established on December 12, 1912. The station was built by the United States Coast Guard to provide protection for the town of Hot Springs and its people and property. The first coast guard officer at the station was Captain John S. Cavanaugh. In 1935, the Coast Guard Station moved from its original location in a former cotton gin to its current location on Avenue A in Hot Springs. In 1951, the station became part of the National Park Service and remains an active coast guard station today.

Hot Springs is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 9,721 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The name comes from springs located near the town and first established as a trading post by traders in 1819. The springs were officially named for General John Custer on July 20, 1875, during the final days of his military campaign against Chief Red Cloud and his Sioux people west of Fort Benton. At that time Hot Springs was just east of present-day downtown Hot Springs. A post office called Hot Springs was established in 1819, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1908. Hot Springs had its start as a trading post by traders under the leadership of Major Isaac Shelby in 1819. By 1830, many settlers had arrived and built homes around the springs; however, only two miles (3 km) from where they lived were some blacksmiths who manufactured cannonballs for Indian Wars fought between Native American tribes on one side and white settlers on the other side; these cannons would be brought to Hot Springs to be repaired or re-shot before being sent back into battle again later on. In 1870–71 an Act of Congress authorized construction of a wagon road through Arkansas leading to Stroudsburg (now Mexico City), Pennsylvania; this route became known as "the Old Santa Fe Trail." In November 1870 four citizens – Captain George Washington Whitehead (a trader with Humble Oil Company), Drayton Wickersham (of Pemberton Place fame), John Salyer (an early settler) – began construction of what would become known as "the Spring River Valley Railroad." The company's first locomotive tender (#2) left Springfield Junction Railroad Depot on December 4th,[4] following general US Route 66 from Memphis to Little Rock via Independencetown[5] via Clarksville Road Bridge over Spring River.[6] After reaching Hot Springs soon after,[7] engine #1 connected with line #2 at Battle Creek Junction [8]; engine #2 ran passenger service only between Springfield Junction and Hot Springs until 1971 when it became surplus property transferred to ARRA's National Museum & Archives program for display at Goodyear’s Lake Mead Laboratory prior to its sale May 24th, 2006 mainline operations resumed April 1st 2007 thru Battle Creek Junction thru Arkadelphia Junction then Onslow Avenue through Enterprise Hiwassee National Forest
The Coast Guard was founded on May 16, 1915, in New York City as the Department of Harbor and Fisheries. The Coast Guard quickly responded to the need for a reliable and organized force to protect coastal communities from maritime threats. In 1916, the first Coast Guard cutter was built and named after then-Secretary of Commerce Charles Evans Hughes. The name change came about because at that time, the Coast Guard didn’t have a single name for itsfleet of ships and boats. In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the National Security Act which gave the Coast Guard jurisdiction over all water areas within U.S. borders except those located on Cuba or Puerto Rico. Thisgave rise to Coast Guard gift history as certain countries refused to allow their coast guard forces into their waters in order to enforce U.S.-imposed sanctions against these countries. As a result, both private individuals and government agencies have given gifts to members of the Coast Guard in an attemptto show support for its missions and objectives. Some examples include: 1958 - The United States Naval Academy donated three destroyers (HMS Gloucester (DE 5), USS Lexington (CV-2) & USS Constitution (BB-25)) as part of its donation campaign in memory of Commodore John Wainwright who had been killed during World War II while serving with the USN's Atlantic Fleet . 1964 - A detachment from USCG Cutter(s) Pollux were sent to Vietnam following the Tet Offensive in order provide assistance with search and rescue operations . 1969 - The Commandant General's Trophy was donated by Firemen's Mutual Benefit Association Local #5100 in honor of Chief Third Class Donnellan O'Keefe who served as First Officer aboard HMCS Ocean Viking during her shakedown cruise off Long Beach California on January 1st 1969 .
