Hope is the largest community in Little Rock County and one of its most populous towns. It is bordered by Fayetteville to the east and north, North Little Rock to the west and south, and AR-15 Township to the southwest. Hope has a rich history dating back to 1880 when post office settlers first arrived in what is now Hope. They named their new settlement after American soldiers who had been killed during an unsuccessful attempt on Confederate General John Bell Hood's headquarters near Fort Smith in 1879. The original town plat was filed on July 3, 1880 with Wm. Halsey Coulter as surveyor; Jno. Atherton as assessor; Rufus Dillard as engineer; Squire Wofford as justice of peace; Mrs. Sibley Asbury as nursemaid; Geo Mears as carpenter/builder; Phebe Beal Griggs as cook/housekeeper/nursemaid (later Mrs. Gillais); Revd’d’’ James Caldwell Clarke as parson (later rector). In 1902 Japanese Americans were brought into Hope under the provisions of Executive Order 9066 which called for all people of Japanese descent living in areas adjacent to Pearl Harbor to be placed under surveillance and registered with local authorities............................................. Hope, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. Hope was founded in 1871 by the merger of two small towns: Hutchinson and Hope. The post office at Hope was opened on December 3, 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on November 15, 1951. Hope has a population of just over 1,000 people as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hope’s history began with a group of settlers who arrived in 1871 from Hutchinson, Arkansas. They pooled their resources to build a cabin and start trading with other communities in the area for goods they could not produce themselves. In time, the town grew into an important stop on the Underground Railroad that helped fugitive slaves escape to freedom. The town also became known for its local cotton gin which produced high-quality cloth for residents throughout central Arkansas. In 1916, Hope students organized an effort to raise money for World War I efforts through selling baked goods from their classroom bake shop. The effort proved successful and generated enough money to supportOperation Victory Loan campaign that year as well as numerous other local causes during World War II. After the war ended, hope continued to grow as a center for education and commerce within Pulaski County. In 1969 it became home to Hope College which continues today as one of the leading universities in the state of Arkansas

Hope is located on the White River and is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–Springdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hope was platted in 1881 by brothers John and George Hines as a small farming community named for their mother's hope that her children would one day return to Arkansaw. A post office called Hope was established in 1886, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1903, the Central Arkansas Railway built a line from Fayetteville to Hope via Springdale; this made Hope an important transportation center for central Arkansas. In 1940, when World War II began, Hope became one of the first towns in Arkansas to be bombed during the war. The bombing destroyed most of the town's businesses and killed more than 60 people. After World War II ended, Hope experienced several waves of population growth; however, all of these growths came to an end around 1960 because of changes within Pulaski County that caused federal funding cuts that affected local governments' ability to provide services such as education and infrastructure development. The current incarnation of Hope began developing after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans on August 29th 2005; as a result of this landfall many businesses were damaged or lost their entire contents due to flooding damage across much of Louisiana which had been largely unaffected by Hurricane Katrina itself but still faced extensive damage from windstorms aftermath weeks later throughout much southern Mississippi etc.; including (among others) Jackson Street Baptist Church which also sustained major damage from tornado #5 Pioneer Bluff just east/northeast (and below Interstate 15)of downtown Jackson about 25 miles west-northwest (NE)of Nashville on Lake Pontchartrain). This catastrophic event set off what has been quite literally 'a social media blitz' involving numerous individuals - both amateur photographers ('snappers') who documented various aspects & circumstances surrounding rescue efforts & recovery operations over those days & eventual weeks leading up too Catrina - bankers (& real estate agents), busy women with young kids near schools early morning upon news reports getting outta bed en masse ASAP (& school buses stopped running), businesswomen (& other clerical/administrative types working long hours'), church Ladies Dems night preceding SOTU dinner hour emergency response plans hadn't included anything close comparein magnitude or destructiveness 2 prior events so soon prior--some churches even having prepped food they would bring 'overload' (unlike Post Office where everyone brought plenty enough food for themselves)... societal norms usually govern reactions like this thruout US., kinda like people walking onto beaches know better then gettin sand between their toes...& I believe some pretty good Samaritans did show up tho! lesson learned Hope has seen significant economic growth since its establishment as a small farming community; however recent declines have occurred due mainly to government austerity measures enacted following the Great Recession beginning in 2007-2009 across much rural America generally though not limited thereto. These policies have resulted particularly in reductions or complete cessation of public funding for education and other basic needs including health care facilities throughout much rural America while overall job opportunities remain poor relative to incomes while large numbers continue working long hours without benefits
