Helena West Helena is a census-designated place in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock– sucked area. Helena West Helena was founded in 1901 and named for Helena P. Bliss, daughter of Dr. John A. Bliss, one of the founders of Little Rock College. On May 9th, 1901, a group of men from Leadville met at a local barn to organize what would become known as the Arkansas Federation of Women's Clubs (AFWC). They established their headquarters in a store on Main Street in HelenaWest Helena and soon enough they were meeting monthly to discuss all things womanly. That first AFWC meeting was also where president Alice Paul announced that there would be no more taxes levied against women citizens until after World War I because "the war will change everything." In 1916 when Arkansas joined the Union we decided to rename our town 'HelenaWest Helena' in honor of Miss Helen P BLISS who gave her time and money to make this community possible ! We chose this name because it honored both our founder Mrs John A Bliss and Miss Helen herself who traveled throughout our state giving presentations on various topics pertaining to women's rights! She even went on some speaking tours which helped get us going! After she passed away we decided that her memory should live on so we changed our name back to 'Helena West Helena'.

Helena West Helena was born in Arkansas on January 1, 1871. Helena's father, James Lewis West, was a white Southerner who moved to Arkansas in the 1870s to farm and become a cattle rancher. Helena's mother, Sarah J. West, was of African-American descent. The pair met while both were working at their father's ranch and married in 1879. The Wests had two children: James A., who became an advertising executive and president of Coca-Cola; and Helene C., who became an actress and singer. In 1904, the Wests divorced after 10 years of marriage. In 1915, Helena married Cecil Fenton Hagler Jr., a wealthy businessman from Dallas County, Texas. They had two daughters: Zelda (1916-2010) and Cheryl (born 1928). Zelda Hagler is best known for her role as Lady Jayne Mansfield on the daytime soap opera Dallas(1957-1981). She also appeared in feature films such as The Godfather (1972), Patton(1977), The Help(2011), Forrest Gump(1994) and real life television shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch(1996), House Mascot(2002)and more recent series like Designated Survivor[2006] which aired on CBS from 2017 to 2018. Cecil Hagler died in 1984 due to complications from leukemia following a long battle with cancer. Zelda Hagler continued to work until she retired at age 85 in 2010; she passed away at home surrounded by her family members including her daughters Zelda and Cheryl
