Helena West Helena is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 13 at the 2000 census. It is located on Arkansas Highway 309 about east of the city of Little Rock. The Helena community was named for Helena Cushman Green, who donated land to the town in 1903. A post office was established at Helena in 1907, and remained in operation until it closed in 1951.

Helena West Helena, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Helena is named after Helena Washington and was settled by European Americans in 1881. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Central Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Helena was Harry Hines who arrived in 1881 from Illinois. He built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River and started to sell goods he had brought with him from Illinois. By 1886, there were five settlers living in Helena: Harry Hines, John Blackwell, Isaac Asbury, Otho Greenough and Hiram Sprague. In 1889, Wm Fenton bought land near Helena for $1 per acre. He built a barn and store on his farm which he used as a post office until 1893 when he moved to Prairie du Chien (now Council Bluffs) Iowa to take over the family business there. The first mail service between Little Rock and Prairie du Chien ran through Helena but it stopped running because of an electrical problem at Pemberton's mill which caused power outages along the way. However, passengers could still get their mail by riding on horseback or walking to town where they would be carried into the mill on wagons before being delivered back home again. In 1907, Jethro Gibbs leased land south of town from Auld Reuben Grimes for $5 per acre netting $15 per year rent Paid annually by Mr Grimes himself! This area became known as 'Gibbs Gulch'. On July 15th 1907 Mrs Lillie Gibbs donated ten acres adjacent to her property just north of town limits towards what would become 'West Helena'. This donation was formally accepted by Mayor Jelliffe December 3rd 1907! Mrs Gibbs later donated another 10 acres more east of that boundary making total 20 acres donated! In 1912 Union Oil Pipe Line Company acquired 40 acres northwest of city limits for storage tanks for their product oil products local production continued until 1915 when production ceased due to World War I Other interests have included First National Bank (1913-1965), Western Electric Manufacturing Co., Phelps Dodge Refining Co., First National Life Insurance Company (1915-2002), Hughes Aircraft Corporation (1946-present) After 1915 most manufacturing activity took place outside of city limits however several businesses including Western Electric Manufacturing Co., Phelps Dodge RefiningCo., First National Life Insurance Company remain active until today like Hughes Aircraft Corporation
Helena West Helena was founded in 1871 by Helena and James W. West. The town grew rapidly, reaching a population of 1,500 in 1880. By 1902, the town had become one of the most important cotton towns in Arkansas. The post office closed in 1904, but the community continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1925. In that year, HelenaWest Helena became an elected city with a mayor and council.
