Forrest City is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. Forrest City is located on Arkansas Highway 8 south of the city of Little Rock. The first recorded mention of Forrest City and its current location was in 1887 when A.D. Nichols reported that he had found a post office here and named it for General Nathan Forrest, then the Confederate general who had led a successful campaign against Union forces during the American Civil War. In 1903, a post office was established at this location; it continued to be used until 1915. The community name may have been derived from "Forrest", one of four counties in Pulaski County which were known as "Forsyth" counties until 1889 when they were organized into Pulaski County proper. In 1906, Forrest City became an incorporated town under government control by a vote of its residents; it remained so until 1959 when it reverted back to unincorporated status again under local government control. In 1960, the city built its first municipal building - which still stands today - and annexed adjacent rural communities; these annexation decisions are still considered controversial by some residents because they allowed for significant increases in city population without increasing access to education or other basic services available to rural citizens. Today, Forrest City is home to a small but vibrant community economy with many businesses providing essential services such as health care and retail goods within walking distance of each other; though much remains unchanged since before 1960s annexation decisions were made, growth has created new challenges for Mayor John Welsh both politically and physically given the increased size and density of recent arrivals over the last several years alone (see below). 1)Mayor Welsh describes his experience working with constituents: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here – I think what we bring to this community can only improve things if we work together as one unit… We all need to stay committed to our goals as well as each other so that anything can happen here!” Despite some challenges faced by mayors since ratification/establishment of ordinance #5 (2012), Welsh feels good about his municipality's position within county government overall: "I feel like we have made progress but there are always going goingto be areas where we can improve."

Forrest City is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 7,883 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Forrest City was founded in 1881 and named for General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the American Civil War. The surrounding agricultural lands were used to produce cotton candy and other food products until World War II when coal replaced cotton as the mainstay of the local economy. The city's growth during this time led to its incorporation as a town in 1942. Today, Forrest City is a thriving center for commerce and industry with several high- profile businesses including Tyson Foods (the largest employer in Forrest City), Bayer AG (a major Pharmaceutical company), Ford Motor Company (the largest automobile producer in America), and numerous small businesses that support local economies. Forrest City has experienced many changes throughout its history including three epidemics of yellow fever which killed more than 200 residents from 1898 to 1902; two fires that destroyed much of downtown before being put out by firefighters; nearly half a century of African American dominance where nearly all working class citizens were black; six years of drought followed by an unprecedented recovery; then rapid gentrification which led to increased crime rates and displacement of longtime residents; and most recently, an influx of refugees from President Donald Trump's travel ban which has caused stress and tension within the community. Despite these challenges, Forrest City remains one of the fastest growing cities in Arkansas with over 1 million residents currently living there.
Forrest City was established in 1871 by James Forrest, a landowner and cereal grower. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Arkansas River, which facilitated transportation and trade. The town became an important center of cotton production, and had a population of 6,000 by 1900. By 1922, Forrest City had become the seat of local government. It experienced significant growth during World War II as the city served as a distribution point for military goods entering the war effort. After the war, Forrest City declined but retains some cultural significance today.
