The Marines of El Dorado, Arkansas, countrymen of the only Continental Army regiment in the state, have a rich history and tradition of giving back to their community. Since then many Marines from El Dorado have served our country through various branches of service - both combatant and support roles. In 2007 Lance Corporal Justin Clements was awarded the Purple Heart for his role in fighting against Taliban insurgents while on duty as a member of 1st Battalion 3rd Regiment Marine Infantry detachment assigned to Helmand Province Afghanistan. It is these types of stories that give us hope that we can all find strength during difficult times; that we will always be there for one another when needed; and that we can look towards the future with optimism because there is reason for hope.

El Dorado is a small town in Arkansas, located about 25 miles northwest of Little Rock. It has a population of approximately 2,000 inhabitants and is the county seat of Marshall County. The name El Dorado comes from the Spanish word for "the golden land." The first European to visit what is now El Dorado County was Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, who explored the area in 1540. After his journey, he reported that there were many gold mines in the area and that it would be easy to find them if one looked hard enough. In 1671, French explorer René-Jean Chouteau also visited El Dorados County and claimed it for France. In 1821, United States diplomat John Evans traveled through Marshall County and noted that there were many silver mines in this region. He recommended that President James K. Polk invest in these mines so that America could become involved in the global stage as an economic power. The president did not follow this advice, but instead invested money into other ventures such as railroads and canal projects. In 1847, prospectors discovered gold at Fort Smith (now Arkadelphia) on the Arkansas River. This led to increased interest in this part of Arkansas and brought new settlers here from all over Europe and North America. By 1850, El Dorado had reached its peak population with around 4,000 people living hereabouts. However, by 1861 the population had fallen to 1,500 due to military conflicts between Unionists and Confederate troops occupying Arkansas during the American Civil War (1861-1865). After Reconstruction took place in 1865 following the end of World War II (1939-1945), El Dorados fortunes began to improve again thanks to rising oil prices which helped spur economic development throughout much of Southwestern US states during this time period….However by 1973 oil prices started crashing which caused much social unrest throughout Arkansas including some violence towards white farmers…..This led to a decline within local businesses both heavy industry/mining operations closed down while small towns outside of Arkadelphia lost their jobs…….. resulting in a loss for citizens situated close to these industries…..As a result most residents today are well aware only very basic information about their history or may have heard rumors about what happened back then………………….

El Dorado was an American Indian town in east Arkansas, near the present day city of Little Rock. It was located on the Arkansas River and became a center of Black Belt culture in the late 1800s. The town was founded by members of the El Dorado band of Apaches in 1881 after they abandoned their earlier settlement at Grantsville on the White River. The name "El Dorado" comes from a term meaning "the land where gold is found." The Apaches began to search for gold in this area and first discovered it at Sattelite Hill in 1876. They soon realized that they had struck something very valuable, so they set up camp at El Dorado and started exploring for gold. In February 1881, they announced their find to the other Apache bands and began trading with white traders. By 1888, when white miners arrived to explore nearby Cottonwood Creek claims, El Dorado had fallen into disrepair as most of its residents left for new settlements or turned against whites because of racism. But within a few years, some newcomers had restored full commercial operation to the town, which continued to thrive until about 1915 when federal officials implemented laws designed to prevent discriminationagainst Native Americans led to its decline. Today only a few traces remain of what once was one of America's most successful Indian towns—an excellent example both of historical preservation and how easy it is for communities like Little Rock to rebound after dark times
The first El Dorado County was established in 1836, and it was named for the Spanish gold rush in California. The area that is now Arkansas became part of El Dorado County on March 1, 1868. The county seat was at Pine Bluff.
