Conway, Arkansas is located in the Ozarks region of central Arkansas. The population was 5,541 at the 2010 census. Conway is part of the Johnson County Micropolitan Statistical Area. Conway was founded in 1836 by David Morgan and others who brought over a Mormon colony from Illinois. It became a post office in 1851 and a town in 1861. The first store in Conway opened on Main Street in 1863. In 1871, the town had an estimated population of 1,000; it had grown to 4,500 by 1911. The local cotton industry declined after World War I, but has revived since 2000 with new investment from China and other countries that desire to invest in Arkansas's oil resources. The current mayor is Donnell Jones (D).

Conway is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It is the seat of Pulaski County and was founded in 1887. The population was 1,047 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in what is now Conway were white people who moved from Illinois to Arkansas in the late 1800s. A post office was established at Conway on November 15, 1889, and remained open until it was discontinued on July 20, 1951. The first school in Conway was built by members of the Methodist Church and operated for five years. In 1893 a second school building was erected; this structure served as both a primary and secondary school until 1978 when it became known as Conway Middle School. In 1903 a sawmill opened near present-day Conway and continued operations until 1940. The mill left an lasting legacy on the community with its many additions such as the dam that still exists today and two churches which still operate: First Baptist Church (founded 1907) and Second Baptist Church (founded 1927). In 1955 a volunteer fire department was organized in Conway thanks to $5 from local business owner J.B. Hillman; this department has been operational ever since. In 1979 Liberty University opened its doors within walking distance of town limits making Conway one of only four towns within reach of that large university without tuition fees paid by students residing elsewhere on campus
