Cabot Coffee was founded in 1892 by John Cabot and his brother, Edward. The brothers ran a small coffee shop near the Arkansas state line before starting their own business. At first, they only sold coffee. In 1906, they opened a café on Main Street in Cabot. In 1916, John Cabot died and his son Edward took over the business. In 1938, the company moved to its current location in downtown Cabot. In 1951, it became part of the National Coffee Corporation and changed its name to Abbotts Coffee Company Incorporated. In 1984, Abbotts Coffee Company merged with Peet's Coffee & Tea to form Peet's-Abbotts Corp., still an independent company today.

In 1836, Cabot became the territorial capital of Arkansas after the admission of that state into the Union. The towns growth continued as cotton plantations were developed in nearby Arkadelphia and Pulaski County. In 1840, Cabot incorporated as a city with a population of five hundred people. By 1850, Cabot had an estimated fifteen thousand residents and was one of the most important trading points on the Red River Valley. AfterArkansas attained its independence from Missouri in1861, Cabot declined to become the capital because there were already several larger cities in that state. However, he remained an important center for commerce until his death in 1865.
