In 1865, Fort Smith became part of West Texas Territory before being annexed by Arkansas in 1889; it reverted to Mexican territory after that annexation. In 1942, World War II began with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor; Cabot was one of several towns within Arkansas selected as military bases across country for war purposes; it remained so until 1952 when it became an Army Post under control of First Army Ground Forces Commander Major General Leslie Riggs.* After hostilities ended with Japan's surrender two years later, First Army took over all army post installations within Arkansas except those located outside Pulaski County *. Cabot is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 511 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–south Little Rock, AR-MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Cabot was Nathaniel Shockley, who arrived in 1814. A post office called Shockley was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1828, John Davenport founded a town about northwest of present-day Cabot; this community failed to take off and died within a few years. In 1830, Daniel Boone moved from Illinois to what is now Pulaski County and set up a cabin near where Cabot now stands. He named his new settlement Boone's Ferry on the Arkansas River because he could not get his family through MissouriRiver carryage without assistance from Native Americans (the chief of the Miamis) who lived along that river. In 1835, John Coker developed a cattle ranch on some of these same land which became known as Coker's Valley Ranch after him. In 1840, William Hogg settled near present-day Cabot with his wife Nancy and their children; they soon organized what is today the First Baptist Church there. This church would later become an important part of both local religious life and civic affairs in Cabot for many years; its graveyard still contains remains of many notable citizens including Hogg's son-in-law Elijah Muhammad (founder of Islam). AfterWilliam Hogg's death in 1850, his widow Nancy took over management of the ranch and continued to run it until her death in 1865; by then it had been divided into several parcels among various heirs including descendants of Hogg himself who continue to live there today. When Texas annexed much or all of Arkansas following its admission into the Union as a state on November 16th., 1886 – angering some residents – President James Kapp declared that only Texans could own property within Arkansas' borders but no one bothered to verify this ruling so various people began buying up chunks & pieces out west….. Cabot, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The community was founded in 1865 by James Cabot and his wife Lucy. It became a city in 1907, and was named for George Cabot, the son of James and Lucy Cabot. The population of Cabot was 2,912 at the 2010 census. The name "Cabot" comes from English explorer John Cabot who visited the area in 1497. He recorded that he had seen an Indian encampment on the bank of the Arkansas River and described it as being surrounded by high mountains covered with very fine grasses. In 1811, General Andrew Jackson took possession of what is now Pulaski County and named it after him, making it part of Jackson's Kentucky Territory. However, because Arkansas Territory was never organized into a state until 1826, both the region around present-day Pulaski County and its namesake were under Mexican control until 1848 when Mexico ceded all but southwestern Kansas to America. In 1865, James Cabot arrived in this area with his family to start a new life afterBTC left England for America two years earlier with hopes of finding gold mines in California. After some initial success farming crops near home (the first time agriculture had been attempted in this part of modern day Arkansas), the cabots decided to move their operations further westward into what is now eastern Pulaski County where they established one or more mills and built up some additional homesteads on land they already owned or leased from others including settlers such as Levi Coffin who improbably claimed ownership over vast swaths of what is today western Lawrence County - much to Coffin's eternal annoyance! By 1870 there were over 100 people living scattered throughout three counties - realigning themselves according toSection 6 map boundaries then being drawn up by Territorial Governor Robert Ewell -James’ youngest brother!
