Benton, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton is known for its natural resources and agriculture. The first inhabitants in what is now Benton were people who lived along the Arkansas River near present day North Little Rock. They hunted game and gathered plants and fruits to eat. In 1824, a party of settlers from Illinois set out from Fort Scott on the Kansas River to explore this area west of Springfield. When they reached Benton, they found that it was an isolated community with no one living around it except for some farmers who raised horses and cattle. Benton began as a small trading post on the Arkansas River between North Little Rock and Conyers. By 1830, it had become a village with a store, schoolhouse, Methodist church (1830), doctor's office (1831), blacksmith shop (1838), wagon shop (1854), hotel (1860), cotton gin (1863) and three other buildings. The first postmaster was Wm Fenton in 1832; he served until his death in 1840 couped off landowning by John Aiken to build what became known as "The Cotton Gin." In 1843-44 Robert Forney built a sawmill on the river at what is now Benton Village after finding logs which he floated downriver for use in his mills at White Sulphur Springs upstream. Forney also donated land for a courthouse and jail which were completed in 1850-51 adjacent to his mill complex on US 67 just east of modern day Overton Park Boulevard northwest of Interstate 40/US 71 junction). Ida Belle Hardin married James Aiken Sr., one of Benton's founders in 1846; they moved to north Little Rock where he operated an auctioneer business before becoming mayor from 1865 until his death in 1890; she died there two years later at age 102 following surgery to remove gallstones caused by lead poisoning while serving as First Lady ofArkansas underGov Winfield Scott Increase Forney Jr., son of Robert Forney founded The Enterprise Newspaper Company headquartered here today since 1886 when father opened door into world’s largest newspaper market while still owner last employee

Benton, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 7,826 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The community was named for General Benton and his family who homesteaded here in 1881. The first post office in Benton opened on November 1, 1881. The area that now Benton was part of the Cherokee Nation until their removal to Oklahoma in 1907. This left an large Cherokee population living in what is now Benton and parts of neighboring counties until their natural replacement by white settlers during the late 19th century brought about many changes to this region including Boeing's founding here in 1911 as a result of improved transportation options available due to railroads connecting the east and west coasts of America with new markets overseas. Many businesses were founded or continue operations within today's boundaries – most notably Wacoal USA which manufactures electronic components for a wide variety of products from automobiles to air conditioners – because there were few alternatives then other than moving into this rapidly growing market place when opportunities arose either through purchase or creation. A major shopping center has been developed nearby since at least 1978 with more recently announced plans for another downtown developmentphase should all go forward as planned; potential anchor tenants include Sears Holdings Corporation (owner Sears) and JCPenney Stores Incorporated (owner JCPenney).
