Benton is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. It is located on Arkansas Highway 2 south of the town of Hope. The post office was first established in Benton in 1892, and served until it was discontinued in 1959. The first settler in Benton was James Hinson who arrived in 1876. A store and stagecoach stop were also built here before the development of Benton as a small farming town. Benton had its start when two men named Benton bought 160 acres (65 ha) of land from J C Pryor for $100 in 1892. They began to plat out a town here and named it after their friend John Sibley, one of the original settlers in this area. In 1903, they added another square block to their town limits and changed the name to Benton again to honor James Hinson who had donated that land originally. The post office has been open since 1909 and is still run by the same family today which includes three generations of service providers with over 60 years combined experience! The current postmaster is Mrs Bettie Swallow!
