The first Shotgun Agreement between ARKANSAS STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE INDUSTRIAL BARONETS OF AMERICA was ratified on December 2nd, 1875; it granted arms dealers exclusive rights to sell shotguns within the state limits “subject to reasonable regulations made by said authorities for defense against public disorders”! Pistol ownership did not become popular until after World War I when criminals started arming themselves instead of relying on law enforcement officers

Benton was founded in 1881 by John Benton and his brother Jesse Benton. The brothers built the first store there and named it "The Benton Store". In 1902, they opened a post office in Benton and continued to operate the business until 1919. In 1951, they sold their store to J.P. Morgan & Company. In 1957, they became part of the investment group that purchased River Valley Bank from National City Corporation. River Valley Bank merged with Trust Co-Operative Corporation in 1988 to become JPMorgan Chase & Co.. The bank still uses the original name for its subsidiary - River Valley Bankshares Incorporated - but it now functions as a separate company with its own board of directors and headquarters located in New York City.. In 1999, JPMorgan Chase & Co., through its wholly owned subsidiary Bancorp America Corp., acquired Geico Insurance Company for $4 billion (). Benton, Arkansas is a town located in western Arkansas, about 12 miles east of Little Rock. The population was 2,858 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Arlington metropolitan area. Benton was founded in 1872 by James W. Benton and his wife Harriett Moulton Benton. The Bentons were early settlers in what is now eastern Arkansas. They started a cotton plantation and also operated a sawmill and gristmill. In 1886, they married Anna Pyle Richardson who came to Arkansas from Tennessee with her family. AnnaPyle Richardson was an educator and women's rights activist who founded ArkCommute (now ArkLink) in Little Rock in 1974 as an online resource forArkansas citizens interested in local issues and history. She was also active in the Democratic Party until her death in 2006. In 1901, James W. Benton donated land to the city ofLittle Rock for its first municipal cemetery which still occupies that location today. That same year, he died at age 83 years after a long career as an entrepreneur and civic leader in central Arkansas
