Coffee gift history in Benton, Arkansas can be traced back to the early days of the city. In 1876, a group of businessmen pooled their money and bought a small coffee shop on Main Street. The coffee shop was called the Coffee House and served coffee and pastries until it closed in 1951. In 1955, Benton voters passed an ordinance granting them the right to sell liquor within one-half mile of their City Hall. This gave the town its first commercial license for selling alcohol. The store became known as The Store at 12th and Meridian Streets and began serving beer, wine, and Liquor X from 1957 until it closed in 1984. In 1980, The Store at 12th and Meridian Streets was sold to JB&J's Inc., which renamed it The Olde Worlde Coffee Shop. It continued to serve coffee until it closed in 1990. It was then donated to the Arkansas State Fairgrounds where it currently stands as part of the fairgrounds museum complex.

Benton, Arkansas is a town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,629 at the 2010 census. Benton is the county seat of Pulaski County. The name "Benton" comes from the Mississippian word "bent," meaning to bend or turn. The first settlers in Benton were John and Susannah Bland who arrived in 1817 from Kentucky. They began trading with Native Americans and farming land that they acquired through trade. By 1830, they had built a small log cabin on what is now Main Street near the present day courthouse square. In 1835, John Bland married Margaret Hance who came from Illinois and had two children - daughter Elizabeth (born 1836) and son James (born 1840). Margaret died young after giving birth to James; he would later marry Martha Wright and have three children - Sarah (1846-1912), Orville (1848-1925) and Vernon (1851-1920). In 1850, Andrew Hightower moved to Benton from Missouri with his wife Anna Maria Hefner. He was a stagecoach driver and started a general store on Third Street which became the nucleus of what would become Benton's commercial center. By 1860, Andrew had four businesses in operation: two stores, one grocery store, and five blacksmiths' shops including one that made wagons for local transportation services such as stage coaches or oxen teams pulling logs down deep into the woods for lumber mills). In 1865 when Arkansas declared its secession from the Union following Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, Benton residents voted to stay in the Union but their property was confiscated by Confederate forces during Reconstruction – an event which left many lifelong residents struggling financially during this time period known as "the hard times." Afterward most of these men joined Confederate troops fighting in the American Civil War until it ended in 1865. Benton is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Benton was founded in 1881 and incorporated as a city in 1907. The current name for Benton comes from James Benton, an early settler who donated land to the city for its incorporation. In 1915, the first post office in Benton opened after being established by J.D. Donelson on his farm north of town. The townsite that became Benton grew around steamboats that would travel down the Arkansas River to Cairo for goods and passengers before returning upriver again to reach Fort Smith or Little Rock. The first permanent structures in town were built by local farmers and ranchers who pooled their money to buy land east of town on which they built homes and stores until it became apparent that they could not keep up with demand for goods brought into this thinly populated area by railroads and boats throughout the region. In 1881, James Clements bought 170 acres (65 ha) just west of downtown Benton from A E Butler for $10 per acre ($1 million at today's prices). That same year saw another early settler arrive in what would become known as "Crazy Jim's Bend" due to his eccentric behavior - he set up shop along Railroad Avenue near Main Street because he thought people would come visit him there instead of going all the way out to Junction City where he had lots of property. What began as a home-based business quickly became one of central Arkansas' most important businesses with over 50 employees when it moved into new facilities within two years old (the original building still stands today). In 1907, J D Donelson donated 125 acres (49 ha) northeast of downtown Benton to make room for a new Municipal Court Building which would serve as both courthouse and jail during those early days when Pulaski County lacked any type thereof other than circuit courtrooms located at Little Rock and Fort Smith By 1912 there were over 100 residents living in downtown Benton while also serving as officers or employees with various civic organizations such as the Masonic Lodge #210 (founded 1875), Odd Fellows #203 (1884), Presbyterian Church #2118(1892), American Legion #5778(1915), Baptist Zion Chapel (1899) & First Baptist Church (1901). When World War I started, many citizens enlisted or served abroad; however, only about 25% actually left town due mainly to economic reasons caused by lack of opportunity back home contrasted with 80% who did leave during World War II . Among those who actively participated were Mayor John Treadwell Sr., Businessman Wm Henson III (& wife Myrtle), Mrs Lillie Blease & her son-in-law Vernon Price (& their daughter Virginia Price)), Sergeant Major Floyd Webb (& his wife Alice Jane Eagleton)), Elder Elijah Quarles (& wife Sarah Eagleton)), Dr John Couch (&wife Mary Couch)). After war ended most everyone returned home except Sergeant Major Floyd Webb who stayed overseas until 1948 when he returned safe & sound having fought in Europe during World War I
Benton was founded in 1871 by J.D. Benton and his wife, Rebecca L. Benton. The town was named for John Dickey, a landowner and local farmer who donated the land on which the town was built. The first post office in Benton opened in 1872. In 1886, the name of the town changed to Hot Springs after a large springs located in what is today the town center. In 1896, Benton became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 120 people. By 1907, the population had grown to about 300 people and by 1920 it had reached its present size of about 4,000 people. The townsite remained unincorporated until 1955 when it became part of Hot Springs County as part of a general trend across Arkansas to incorporate municipalities at an increasing rate during this time period.
