Benton, Arkansas is a city in the far southwest corner of the U.S. state of Arkansas. It was founded in 1881 by John Tipton, who organized the first all-volunteer Volunteer Infantry regiment, which served in the Mexican–American War and other conflicts. The town grew rapidly during World War I due to its role as an ammunition production center for the military forces that fought in Europe and Asia. After the war, Benton became one of the leading agricultural centers in America, producing crops such as cotton and corn; however, it declined after World War II due to suburban development and heavy industry growth. Since 1970, Benton has been home to a small army garrison Reserve unit known as "The Army".

Benton, Arkansas is a town in the US state of Arkansas. The population was 2,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Pine Bluff, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. Benton is located on U.S. Route 65 about 34 miles (55 km) east of downtown North Little Rock and 54 miles (88 km) west of Memphis, Tennessee. The community was named for Major General Isaac Benton who fought in the Mexican-American War and Battle of Buena Vista Creek. Benton became a post office in 1875 and a city in 1903. In 1978, it merged with Pine Bluff to form the Greater LittleRock–NorthLittleRock Combined Statistical Area which has a total population of over 100,000 people as of 2016
