The Arkadelphia National Guard was organized on September 15, 1916. The unit was originally called the Arkansas National Guard Company D. It was redesignated the Arkansas National Guard Regiment C in 1938 and then the Arkansas National Guard Regiment E in 1951. The regiment was again redesignated as the Arkansas National Guard Regiment F on October 1, 1976. The regiment is now known as the Arkansas Army National Guardsmen. The first national guard unit to be raised in Arkadelphia were two companies of infantry from neighboring Benton County. On September 15, 1916, these units were amalgamated to form one battalion under command of Colonel Julius Hirschhorn. On July 1, 1918, another battalion of infantry (now known as company A) was organized from citizens who had volunteered to serve in World War I. This battalion served for three years before being disbanded on December 8th, 1921 due to lack of personnel and equipment during that time period. This event marked the beginning of a long tradition of citizens volunteering their services to join local military forces when war threatened or began to develop within their respective counties(most notably World War II). In 1938, when the state ofArkansas adopted its current name proclamation for its armed forces-the Arkansas ArmyNational Guardsmen-the regiment addition became effective and it officially changed its name from Company D (arkansas militia) to Regiment C (army). On October 1st 1978-just four months after Arkadelphia became a city-the regiment became part of an enlarged Tenth Infantry Division stationed at Fort Chaffin outside Little Rock which also included component companies from Pulaski County and Faulkner County(renamed Departmental Units #2 & 3 respectively). Eighteen months later on February 14th 1980-(just after Fort Chaffin pulled out Effective date for 10th Infantry Division)-Army General Nathan Twining transferred all elements including Headquarters and Headquarters Troop Muster Roll with Regimental Commander Colonel Wm Halsell from Ft Chaffin TO Little Rock UT where they would become brigades/armies under command generalmajor Joseph Jumper effective date March 20th 1980 thru May 30th 1980 forming what is now Brigade C (ARNG)

The first settlement in what is now Arkadelphia was made by settlers on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1814. The town was named for General John C. Ark (1786-1850), who served as a brigadier general in the Mexican-American War and as commander of Fort Smith from 1847 to 1851. Arkansas River Bridge across the Arkansas River was built in 1931 and has been used by both local buses and Amtrak trains since its construction. The bridge also includes an observation deck which offers a great view of downtown Little Rock and surrounding areas. Arkadelphia High School opened its doors to students on September 24, 1955, after serving as West Pulaski High School from 1924 to 1951. It was one of two high schools open for students in Pulaski County when it became éctable under Public Schools Act No. 2 of 1954; the other school being Fayetteville High School which had been closed due to lack of enrollment during World War II. In 1987, Armour Elementary School adjacent to West Pulaski Intermediate School merged with Arkadelphia High School becoming Armor Middle/High School which still serves grades 7 through 12 today despite having been replaced by Central Arkansas Junior College (CARC) as both schools’ academies six years earlier in 1984 when ARKCHE became part of CONWAY COMMUNITY COLLEGE SYSTEM: A new system that included all public school campuses within a single large district that provided services including education, job training and health care for all citizens regardless of income or residence status
