Army gifts have been a part of the Arkansas community for many years. From Civil War era munitions to modern-day technology and warfare gear, the military has always been an important part of the state’s history. The first Army unit to arrive in Arkansas was the 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment on July 13, 1861. The regiment was soon reassigned to duty at Fort Smith, Ark., before being transferred to Little Rock on October 15, 1861. The battalion was mustered out of service on December 14, 1861. The 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment arrived in Arkansas on November 17, 1862. The regiment was quickly reassigned to duty at Fort Smith before being transferred to Bentonville on December 11, 1862. The regiment was mustered out of service on February 6, 1865. Arkansas also received its first cavalry unit when the 7th Cavalry Regiment arrived in town from Missouri on January 12, 1863. The squadron was immediately reassigned to duty at Fort Smith before being transferred to Little Rock on April 3rd and becoming attached to the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment as part of that unit’s brigade under Lieutenant Colonel John Millington Youngman III “Jock” Roper (1825-1914). In 1864 Jock Roper led his squadron into battle against Confederate forces near Pea Ridge during what is called Battle Creek Campaign and later reorganized it as a battery under Captain Alfred Pemberton (1824-1900) which participated in various engagements throughout southern Arkansas until it surrendered at Bee Branch Junction east of Fayettevilleboro on September 20th 1865 after three months engagement against Union forces under General James Longstreet (1805-1865). It is interesting that both Jock Roper and Captain Alfred Pemberton were natives of Arkadelphia and had lived there since they were very young children! This event helped solidify Army presence in central Arkansas for nearly two decades!

Arkadelphia is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 51,865 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County and the home of the Arkadelphia Military Academy. The town was known as "Arkadelphia" from 1827 until 1881 when it became "Pulaski". The name "Arkadelphia" originated with General John C. Beauregard's wagon train that arrived there on November 5, 1827, during his second expedition down the Arkansas River. He named the settlement after his old friend and mentor Colonel Francis Marion (1786-1855), who had accompanied him on this journey. The first permanent settler in what is now Arkadelphia was James Witherspoon in 1828. A post office called Witherspoonville was established in 1830, but no mail went to it until 1851. In 1881, Pulaski County was created from portions of Lawrence and Polk Counties and Arkadelphia became its county seat. In 1907, a new cotton gin was built by J.N Randall & Sons along with other businesses in downtown Arkadelphia for processing cottonseed oilseed production coming out of nearby Wheatland County which began operation in 1906. The mill continued operations until it closed in 1916 due to World War I shortages of oil resources; however, local resident Henson Loyd operated a small distillery adjacent to the mill until 1922 when he too closed his business for lack of demand from farmers marketing their produce locally rather than through large centralized warehouses like those being developed near Memphis at that time). In 1932, an agricultural show center and feed store were erected on Elm Street just north of Main Street; this complex served as both a showroom and market place for local farmers selling their products as well as hosting agricultural exhibits throughout the year including shows by famous exhibitors like Fatted Goat (1925) and Monocle Monsanto (1926). In recent years there has been increased development within walking distance of downtown - including two new shopping centers - one focused principally on health care services providing primary care physician offices/clinics/medical group practices alongside more general retailers such as Walmart Supercenter and Kmart; while also developing several acres within downtown limits for use primarily as retail space or parklandanglobal type amenities such as tennis courts or dog exercise areas etc., although much remains undone or under construction given present economic conditions across much rural Arkansas
When the United States first entered World War I in April 1917, its military was composed of a single regiment: the 1st Infantry. The war began to change this on April 6th when the US declared war on Serbia. On April 8th, the 1st Infantry was redesignated as the 133rd Infantry Regiment and ordered to Utah Beach where they landed on June 6th. Unfortunately for them, due to bad weather conditions and enemy fire, they only made it three miles before being forced back. The 133rd Infantry Regiment would be re-orderd later that day and would land at Omaha Beach two days later on June 7th. Despite this initial setbacks, their captain decided that his unit could not hold out against superior German forces and ordered them to retreat towards Rheinbach but were stopped by machine gun fire from a German outpost. After reorganizing their unit and reinforcing with artillerymen from other regiments, they advanced again on July 9th but were again stopped by heavy gunfire at Weissenhofen airfield which gave rise to the nickname "The White House Battalion". This success finally allowed them to push into Berlin where they arrived on July 15th after spending two weeks as prisoners of war in concentration camps near Frankfurt am Main. After liberation, members of the 133rd Infantry Regiment received awards such as Bronze Star Medal (for bravery) or Purple Heart Medal (for wounds received). In total, over 580 soldiers from this regiment would die in action during World War I including Captain John Jumper who died while leading his battalion across Normandy beachhead on D-Day
