After the war, the unit was broken up into multiple units and this led to its present organization.

The history of Somerton begins with three men who founded the community in 1912. They were John A. Somerville, Charles H. Somerville and George W. Dixon. The name "Somerton" was chosen because it was a place where wheat could be grown and there were no other settlements within a mile (1 kilometer). The first post office opened in 1916 and lasted until 1923. The first store in Somerton was the Lighthouse Cafe which operated from 1916 to 1922. In 1924, the first school opened and remained open until 1984 when it became an adult daycare center known as Homecoming Place Daycare & School which still operates today as a private K-12 school。 In 1927, a sawmill was built and continues to operate today as one of Somerton's most important economic engines; however, it closed its doors for good in 1971 due to economics reasons; however, it has been renovated various times over the years and currently houses many apartments inside its walls! In 1976, another small business calledthe Hardware Store opened up on Main Street which also continued to operate for many years after that before finally closing its doors in late 2009 due to lack of customers or perhaps politics related reasons? . Finally in 1984 there was also an addition onto Main Street which housed what is now known as the Community Center (later renamed Square One) . This building served as both our primary public gathering place during festival seasons such as 4th of July celebrations or Christmas events etc., but more recently has become primarily used for storage purposes by our citizens/ Residents! Nowadays though you can still find some pieces of this former building left behind such as some original windowsills that are still all intact! There have been various renovations throughout these years including: adding new roofs/ eaves/ gables etc., adding new classrooms/ offices etc., but ultimately we want our Community Center back just like it once had – Grandma’s House 🙂 Our hope is that with time and patience we can bring this old mill back into production once again so that we may offer some great deals on local produce during agricultural festivals or even hosting outdoor concerts themed around local music 😉

It also has a small library which opened in 1978.
