By 1930, there were more than 10 businesses operating in downtown Sedona alone! During World War II (1939-1945), Sedona played an important role as a military installation because it housed artillery batteries along with other weapons needed to support Allied forces fighting against Japan. In 1956-1959 when Interstate 10 was built through central Arizona creating more travel options for people within the area (and making Sedona even more popular), downtown business owners lobbied hard to get rid of most of the parking meters so that they could be used for public transportation instead! The campaign worked and now buses run directly into town from both ends of town without stopping at any parking lots!
