Queen Creek is a small, agricultural town in Apache County, Arizona. It is located about 10 miles east of the county seat of Gila Bend, on the north side of the Queen Creek River. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Queen Creek was founded in 1875 by John Quesenberry and his family as a small creek that ran through their rancho (land grant) near present-day Queen Creek. The first post office was established in 1876 and the first store opened in 1877. The community name was chosen because it sounded like a queen's voice when called. In 1912, Queen Creek became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and council. The town has two schools: one public school and one private school. A water tower was built in 1916 and serves both the town and surrounding farms; it is now used as a storage shed for equipment used by the town police department. Queen Creek has been very active within its community since its beginnings - several notable residents have included ranchers Dolph Lundgren, Willy Wonka and Bob Hope, composer Jerome Kern, pharmacologist Drs. Charles Eisler and Russell Brandt, automotive designer Al Huntley, singers Patsy Cline and Elvis Presley – as well as many local businesses including two grocery stores (now closed), four banks (closed), three restaurants (closed), three hardware stores (closed), two painters/builders (both closed), two DJs/promoters (/nightlife) establishments operated out of homes/apartments (both closed). Many students from nearby Gila Bend attend Queen Creek High School while others attend other nearby high schools such as Apache Junction or Flagstaff State University; some also commute to Mesa or Phoenix for work or education opportunities outside of our small community nucleus!
