It began in 1865, when Elias C. Coffee and his brothers started a small coffee roasting business in Peoria, Arizona. The business rapidly grew and by 1887, the Coffee Brothers had become one of the largest coffee roasters in America. Over the years, they continued to expand their operations and by 1924 had moved to their current location in downtown Peoria. Throughout its history, the company has been deeply dedicated to quality and innovation. In 1928, Elias C. Coffee decided to develop a new type of coffee that would revolutionize the industry – single-origin coffee. small batch coffee history in Peoria, Arizona began in the early 1920s when Italian immigrants Giovanni and Angelo Monti started a small cafe on Second Street. In the 1930s, Hermann and Clara Kapp opened their own café on Fourth Street. In the 1940s, Harry Ellerin opened The Coffee Shop at Seventh Avenue and Northern Ave. In the 1970s, Jim Beam Brewing Company moved its manufacturing operations from Tennessee to Peoria. By the late 1990s, all but one of the original businesses had closed or been bought out by other companies. However, surviving businesses continue to operate as cafes and restaurants today.
Peoria is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The population was 137 at the 2010 census. Peoria is the county seat of Maricopa County. The first settled area in what is now Peoria was on the east side of the Salt River and was called "Station Mesa". In 1867, a group of Mexicans led by José Joaquin Urrea platted what is now Peoria on land that they owned east of the river. The town site was chosen because it lay between two canals used for irrigation purposes - one going to Phoenix and another to Tucson. The city's first mayor was John Witherspoon (1887-1893). From 1903 to 1912, Mayor A.L. Bemis served as acting mayor when the mayor died or resigned. In 1906, General Electric began manufacturing radios here under its new factory complex which included an electrical substation and transmission line from downtown Phoenix to this new plant south of First Street and east of railroad tracks which connected with other GE plants in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA., Cleveland Heights/Summit Heights, OH., West Allis/Osage City, WI., Erie Falls (later Elmira), NY., Slippery Rock (now Rochester), MN., Quincy Market/Watertown (later Watertown), MA., Greenpoint (now Brooklyn) NY.), Sayreville (now Sayreville Hills), NJ.; and Canonsburg Village (now Monroeville) PA.. It employed 30000 people during its heyday in 1914-1917...After World War I ended, General Electric closed down most of its radio plants; however, their electric substations continued to operate until 1923 when all electricity was turned off throughout Indiana due to lack of money from war profits...Peoria became an automated production center for GE products after 1945....In 1951 IBM opened a new research staff laboratory adjacent to their old main office building on East Fourth Street; this lab would become known as IBM Research Laboratory...It has been reported that about seventy percent of all computer programs started or developed at IBM were located in Peoria during those years
