The Arizona National Guard is one of the oldest and most popular national guard units in the United States. The unit was activated on August 15, 1912, as the Fifth Regiment of Arizona Volunteers. The unit has served in a variety of peacekeeping and military roles throughout its history. The Arizona National Guard was originally composed of three regiments: The First Regiment (August 15, 1912), Second Regiment (October 1, 1912), and Third Regiment (March 14, 1915). These three regiments amalgamated on December 12, 1916 to form the present day Arizona National Guard. The first regiment was stationed at Peoria until it moved to Casa Grande in 1913. The original purpose of the national guard was not always clear. At first it only consisted of volunteers from rural areas who could no longer serve in the regular army because they were too old or too inexperienced. After World War I ended there were calls for an increased number of guardsmen to help protect American citizens during wartime due to increasing tensions between America and Great Britain over Atlantic trade routes. After World War I ended, more guardsmen were called up because Congress had authorized funds for a permanent national guard force through the end of hostilities. The armory at Cheyenne Mountain became available so that Guardsman could be trained in how to use firearms and other equipment needed for combat operations overseas. In 1924, General James Gifford ordered all Guardsmen east coast stateside so that they could participate in state celebrations celebrating Alaskan independence from Russia following their successful campaign against Russian forces during World War I which resulted in Alaska becoming an autonomous country within the United States with its own government and flag! -In 1911 Congress passed legislation authorizing $5 million for a permanent federal military force known as "the National Guard Bureau." This law gave power to organized militias such as local police departments and volunteer fire departments throughout America which would become known as "the National Guard." On August 15th 1912 these militia groups meeting at Fort Mojave outside Phoenix established themselves into what we now know as the Fifth RegimentArizona Volunteers under orders from Governor Hennepin County Sheriff George McMillin aka “Pete”) -With passage of Public Law 89-286 on October 1st 1889 by then President Grover Cleveland this act created an additional agency - “National Military Police” - responsible for guarding Federal buildings interior and exterior while also providing law enforcement services within their jurisdiction outside those limits

Casa Grande was founded in 1867 by Alexander Graham Bell. The city was named after the prominent Spanish land grant of Casa Grande, which had been given to Carleton C. Welles by Don Carlos II of Spain. At first, the town only consisted of a few homes and a small jail. But over time, it grew into an important post-war boomtown, with businesses and residents helping to build the massive Casa Grande Dam and other key infrastructure projects. After World War II,Casa Grande slowly began to decline as its population dwindled and businesses closed their doors. But through hard work and determination, the community has bounced back in recent years and is now one of Arizona's most vibrant cities – home to several high-rise buildings dating back to the early 1800s, as well as a growing number of cultural attractions including art galleries, symphony orchestras and football teams.
In the early 1800s, Casa Grande was an agricultural community located in what is now northern Phoenix. The area that is now Casa Grande was part of the Apache Nation and was home to many small villages. In 1821, the United States acquired land in western Phoenix from the Apache Nation and began developing it into a town. The first buildings were erected in 1825 and by 1830,Casa Grande had a population of around 100 people. By 1840, Casa Grande had grown to over 1,000 people and became a major cultural center within Phoenix. During the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), Casa Grande served as a military outpost on Ajo Pass near present-day Glendale. On July 4, 1847, during one of their skirmishes with American forces led by General Joaquin Miller, the Apache chief Cochise surrendered at Camp Verde east of Tucson. After leaving Arizona for good, most of Cochise's Apache warriors eventually joined forces with Mexican revolutionary Francisco Villa and his army instead of continuing resistance against Ulysses S. Grant's American troops after they reached Mexico City in 1848. After California gained statehood in 1850, settlers started moving into present day Arizona Territory from Northern California (thus starting the Gold Rush) which caused increased demand for labor on Orange County vineyards and other ranching operations throughout central Arizona including Casa Grande where prospectors discovered new gold deposits along several hundred miles wide carpet of high quality quartzite soils stretching across much of central Arizona from Tombstone all the way to Yuma River Valley below modern-day Prescott Valley; these discoveries helped spur migration northward out onto what would become known as "The Great Western Desert". A number of businesses were established inCasa Grande during this time including grocery stores (which continue to exist today), dry goods stores/distributors such as druggists/pharmacies/, barber shops/beauty salons/, saddleries/, flour mills/recreational facilities/, hotel/motels/. Some important events that took place here during this time include: Territorial Legislature meeting on February 26th 1861; President James Buchanan signs Executive Order 9981 providing for admissionof Nevada into Union on January 12th 1862; building commenced on October 15th 1863 at corner Third Street & Gadsden Avenue NWQHG& known as Fort Harrison wagons being unloaded at Hwy 66 just outside town limits; United States Cavalry Regiment under Major General Victoriano Huertas arrives November 25th 1863 at Fort HarrisonHe also conducted reconnaissance surveys for potential lines Of Supply leading downriver towards Phoenicia Ranch about 25 miles southwest or so called El Centro Colony situated about 20 miles southwest or so called San Gorgonio Mountains which are today part of Maricopa County
