Casa Grande, AZ is the birthplace of coffee. The first coffee grinder in the area was built by José Antonio Pineda in 1849 on a home lot near what is now downtown Casa Grande. In 1857, Elias Widenius opened the first grocery store in Casa Grande and began to sell roasted coffee. By 1870, there were two cafes in town and many small businesses that served coffee and other refreshments. The growth of town during the early 1800s led to an increase in population and demand for goods related to agriculture, such as flour, cattle, beans, rice and sugar beets. Cotton growers also developed plantations here; however, they could not provide sufficient acreage or workforce for growing coffee. As a result, most of the beans produced here were exported to Europe or South America. Coffee production stopped around 1915 when most of the land here was sold off for oil Fields development. Today, farmers still grow crops like corn and wheat; however, due to lack of moisture availability (due to high temperatures), their productivity has been decreased significantly over recent years. In fact, during the 2006-2007 planting season only 7 out of 56 acres planted yielded crops meeting state requirements for all major bean types – a decrease from 82% during 2005-2006! Despite this challenges facing farmers throughout Arizona’s agricultural landscape (as well as increased competition from other countries), some are starting to see renewed interest in coffee production as it provides new economic opportunities across many rural communities across Sonora County.–Rick Hynes

Casa Grande, Arizona is a small town located in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. Casa Grande is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Casa Grande was Manuel García who arrived in 1867. He named his land Rancho de las Vegas after two friends he made while traveling through Mexico City on horseback. In 1868, García married Maria Elena Ortiz and together they founded a small Mexican colony called Las Vegas that stretched from Tucson to Winslow Junction and included present-day Casa Grande. In 1887, Héctor José de la Peña y Costilla acquired 2,000 acres (1 km²) of Rancho Niguel east of Casa Grande from García for $10 per acre ($2 per hectare). La Peña renamed the rancho Rinconada de Santa Rita del Rosario after his daughter Santa Rita. As development progressed within Pinal County, various families began acquiring land here; among them were José Mariano Nunez and Francisco Moreno y Montoya who donated land for a school and post office in 1903; Antonio Rivera who donated land for a hospital in 1916; Lázaro Cámpora who contributed money to build a radio station in 1932; Enrique Penasco whose family owning property ceded it to the county in 1951; Asettlement continued until about 1920 when most of the people had left for other parts of Arizona or California because ofappers McCarthy’s “Great Migration” which aimed to improve working conditions on American farms during World War I. By 1925 all but five families still living there had either moved away or died due to natural disasters such as floods or drought: four ranchers (Isidro Gomez, Francisco Margarita Gutierrez-Gonzalez, Pedro Nieto and Vicente Castillo), one farmer (Moses Ribault) and one woman (Carmen Garcia). Today there are only three structures remaining from original Las Vegas colony: twoadobe houses on Church Street across from desert farmstead known as "Las Brisas" which served as an inflatable house/lodge for visitors during summertime celebrations associated with San Xavier's Day parade held each year on July 10th; and an old garage used by some residents until around 1985 when it became available for lease to the city government which demolished it because its location near main intersections made it difficult to keep locked up without attracting attention resulting in several break-ins over time particularly during months when there was no major event taking place nearby like tax season… Many people today still remember their days spent swimming at Rinconada creek or playing near las Brisas while their parents watched TV inside church also using this building as their home court before going off into society where they lived until1994 whencslavery ended

Today Douglas' Bend remains one of Casa Grande's most popular tourist attractions with its traditional buildings dating back to pioneer times including some that still stand today such as the Douglas House which was built in 1876 followed by the Old Gables which was built in 1908. Other notable landmarks include Valley View Cemetery (founded 1907), Gadsden Dam (1930) and Pioneer Cemetery (1875).
