Bullhead City is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 27,993 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pima County and the largest city in the county. The first permanent settlement in what is now Bullhead City was made by Mexicans who came to Tucson from Mexico during the Mexican-American War on July 4, 1847. They named their new town San Pedro de la Hacienda after a small mission that had been founded by Franciscans near Tucson earlier that year. A second group of Mexica arrived on November 10, 1848 and named their new town San Marcos after General Miguel Castillo's military victory over Spanish forces at San Marcos Heights in 1847. On December 5, 1849, citizens of Tucson petitioned Congress to incorporate as a city because they felt that it would be more advantageous to trade with Bullhead City than with Phoenix or Tucson. On January 2, 1850, Congress passed an act incorporating Bullhead City as a city and giving it its present name. The first mayor of Bullhead City was Lorenzo Colón y Costilla and the first vice mayor was José Ruiz y Ursini.
