Avondale is a small town in Pima County, Arizona. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. It is located east of Phoenix on the border of Apache and Maricopa Counties. The name Avondale comes from "avon" meaning olive tree and "dale" meaning path or trail. Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza passed through this area in 1769 while exploring what would become Tucson. He called the area Campo de las Olivetas because he found olives there. Avondale began to grow as a result of its location near some of the most important agricultural areas in Pima County. The first businesses in Avondale were general stores and post office buildings that opened between 1892 and 1912. These buildings still stand today, providing a unique perspective on early 20th century life in the community. In 1925, avocados were brought to Market Place by pioneer fruit dealer Harry Hays along with other crops for use by local farmers during droughts caused by drought conditions across much of Arizona that year. Today, avocados are an important part of local cuisine as they are used to make guacamole, avocado toast, and other dishes. During World War II, many residents served in the military including families who owned farms within close proximity to Fort Huachuca which was then located at present-day Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX). Many residents lost their properties during air raids such as those conducted against Phoenix on December 6th 1944 which destroyed most homes within five miles of downtownPhoenix; however many remain standing today as part of town architecture! After the war ended, many residents returned home and started new businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants etc., which continues to be one of Avondale's biggest strengths today!

Avondale is a city in Pima County, Arizona, United States. The population was 10,097 as of the 2010 census. The area around Avondale has been inhabited for over two centuries by Arizonans of Native American and Hispanic descent. The first Europeans to see the area were Spanish explorers in 1767 when they landed on what is now called Santa Catalina Island. They named it Rancho de las Vegas because there was no one living there at that time who could claim it. In 1868, George W. Smith founded an agricultural colony in what is now downtown Avondale and named it after himself, AVONDALE AVE. It lay abandoned until 1889 when developers started building housing near the originalAVONDALE AVE./Rancho de las Vegas border. In 1912, a group of Mormon missionaries from Utah arrived in Tucson and established the First Presidency Quorum of the Twelve Apostles' Church here (). After three years of missionary work (and 8 months travel), they reported back to Brigham Young that all evidence indicated there would be no significant population growth or religious activity in this corner of Arizona so he ordered them to move on () . They built 435 homes between 1912 and 1914 (). This period also saw many changes within the LDS church due to Joseph Fielding Smith's Translation Project (), which led to creation of many denominations outside of Mormonism including Seventh-day Adventism (), African Methodist Episcopalism (), Iglesia Cristiana Apostolica USA (Iglesia ni Cristo) (), Presbyterianism (), Congregationalism (), Unitarianism ())
Avondale is a small town in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 1,927 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1907 by Adolphus Greeley and his family. The first post office in Avondale was established in 1908. It was renamed Greeley in 1912 after Alfred Greeley, the founder of Phoenix Airways. In 1916, the United States Postal Service moved its main mail depot from Scotts Valley to Avondale, making it the first post office in the area to do so. Avondale is located on I-10 and has a small shopping center at its downtown core which includes a variety of stores including Gander Outdoors and Fitness, Bank of America, KFC/Domino's Pizza, Ford dealership, Dollar General store and Subway sandwich shop
