Avondale is a city in the Phoenix metropolitan area, located on the east side of Phoenix. The population was 153,821 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Glendale Unified School District. The history of Avondale goes back to 1881 when German immigrant Otto Wegener purchased several acres of land on what is now northeast corner of Indian Road and Warner Avenue. He named his property "Avondale" after one of his many holdings in Bavaria, Germany. When he died in 1913, his wife Bernice took over ownership and ran it as a small grocery store until her death in 1928. From there it passed through several hands before being bought by James Ahern in 1951 and renamed Ahern City. In 1957 it became part of the newly formed Glendale Unified School District which made it an official city within its boundaries. In 1978, Avondale voters approved Measure O which designated portions of east Mesa and south Scottsdale as annexed into Avondale City Limits for economic development purposes only; this annexation created much-needed jobs for avocados and other agricultural crops that were later to benefit from more urban development around them.As time went on, however, some residents began feeling that their city had become too suburbanized; they lobbied hard for changes to City government with little success until finally achieving passage of Proposition 316 – also known as "The Tax Increment Financing Amendment" – which gave residents the power to vote on new policies and ordinances affecting their municipality directly (making them subject to referendum). This put an end to years-long negotiations between Mayor Tom Bradley and business leaders who wanted increased density near Interstate 10 while preserving access to much-needed open space within town limits

Avondale, Arizona is a small town located in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The population of Avondale was estimated to be approximately 55,000 people in 2000. The first American settlers in what is now Avondale were José María Escobar and his wife Juana de la Garza y Escobar. They arrived on July 16, 1867, and built the first permanent structure in what is now the town- which they named Prescott after General John Prescott who had led military campaigns against Mexico during the Mexican–American War. It wasn't until 1878 thatavondale proper was established as a town when the land east of Pueblo Road was bought from Apache Chief Cochise for $1,500. The town grew rapidly due to its proximity to Phoenix and its access to irrigation water from Gila River Valley. The post office atAvondale opened on May 4, 1886. By 1912 there were over 20 businesses inAvondale with an average of 10 customers per day. avondales’ growth continued through World War I and into the 1920s when more industry arrived including a meatpacking plant and printing presses which helped create jobs for local residents. In 1929 avondales became part of Phoenix Municipal District No. 1 when City of Phoenix boundaries were shifted southward by county commissioners following annexation by Scottsdale County. However, due to economic development outside ofPhoenix Municipal District No.,the population began declining quickly throughout most of the 1930s before stabilizing around 50,000 by 1940 despitePopulation Decline Parade announced by then Mayor James Buchanan in 1939 (see below). During World War II avondales’ economy increased as resources became available such as lumber and cotton production along with new housing developments developed aroundAVONDALE High School where students could attend school while working full time in their homes or businesses meeting necessary construction demands during wartime periods such as supplying materials for aircraft plants or providing labor for government projects such as constructing roads or bridges . After war ended avondales experienced rapid growth once again with new subdivisions being developed which included single family homes (), apartments (), golf courses (), shopping malls () and even theme parks (). Today’s population stands at approximately 60K with increasing interest in relocating within city limits although much remains unchanged since 1960 including downtown business districts adjacent to schools (such as AVONDALE SQUARE) popular tourist destinations like Camelback Mountain Resort ()andphoenixSaguaro National Park ().
