In the 1920s, the company became known as The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company and soon made an impact on the Anchorage area with its unique flavor profile. By the 1930s The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company had become one of Alaska's leading businesses. By that time, it had also developed a large chain of retail stores throughout North America. The company continued to grow steadily until its closure in 1997 due to financial troubles. Today, many of the original employees continue to operate as small batch roasters under their own name in various parts of the world.
