Trussville is a city in Cullman County, Alabama, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cullman County and home to the Trussville Air National Guard Base. The city is named for John A. Truss, a brigadier general in Confederate service who fought in the American Civil War and Reconstruction era. The first known human settlement in what is now Trussville was founded by white traders in 1795. By 1820 there were three authorized buildings within present-day Trussville limits: one school house, one store, and one gin (a whiskey distillery). In 1827 two citizens - George Stephenson and James Hogg - built a log cabin on the current location of City Hall to serve as their town's first courthouse and town hall. Famed locomotive builder George Stephenson lived nearyby until his death in 1875; however, his locomotive builders shop still stands today across from City Hall. His son Robert Stephenson also had an extensive business interests throughout much of Birmingham before he passed away in 1888 at age 83 years old. One such interest was building airboats which he used to transport passengers between various locations around Birmingham including Ala Moana Beach Park & Pier and downtownBirmingham during prohibition days when alcohol could not be bought or sold anywhere within city limits without special permits! Trussville is a small town located in Morgan County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,609 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur metropolitan area. Trussville was founded on July 1, 1867 by John A. Truss and his wife Anna Hargrave Truss as a post office called "Albany". The name was changed to "Trussville" on October 15, 1868 after John A. Trussell's death. In 1886, railroad developers James Witherspoon and George Crouch purchased land in what is now downtown Trussville from the estate of Dr. Samuel Jones for $1,000 cash and built the first railroad station in Alabama at what is now Main Street and First Avenue. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location within easy access of new transportation facilities such as railroads and roads that allowed it to become an important commercial center for Morgan County. By 1915, there were over 100 businesses in downtown Trussville with a population of over 2,500 residents. At that time, the city had also annexed portions of neighboring Decatur which made it one of America's largest cities without any annexation process. During World War I (1914-18), downtown Trussville became home to many manufacturing plants run by local companies such as Alcoa and DuPont who produced materials for military use including ammunition and aircraft parts; these plants closed during the war but resumed production afterwards under new names like Alcoa Aluminum Works (now known as Pointer Aluminum) and Du Pont Research Laboratories #2 (now known as Nucor).
