The Trussville, Alabama Coast Guard Station was established on December 9, 1941. The station was originally called the “Trussville Municipal Court House” and later became the “Trussville Coast Guard Station.” It was first manned by a detachment of the Mobile Bayou Auxiliary Police Department and then by the Trussville Volunteer Fire Department. On October 1, 1942, the Mobile Bayou Auxiliary Police Department detachment withdrew to join other departments in Baldwin County and Trussville became self-supporting. In 1944, a detachment of United States Coast Guardsmen arrived from Galveston, Texas to take over patrols along Mobile Bayou from the Mobile Bayouside Patrol Squadron. The Coast Guardsman presence at this station lasted until 1946 when it was transferred to Homoeopathic Hospital in Gulfport for use as an emergency room. At that time it reverted back to the Trussville Coast Guard Station name which it has held ever since. In 1951-1952, a new agency called National Guardsman Training Command (NGTC)leased land adjacent to the station for storage and training of National Guardsmen from various states who were being mobilized for military service during the Korean War. This facility also served as barracks for guardsmen while they underwent their training which lasted until 1957 when NGTC disposed of its facilities and coast guard personnel moved into newly constructed barracks located on First Street in downtown Trussville. This location is still used today as part of Headquarters and Support Services Division which manages all aspects of coastal defense operations within Trussville limits including protection of municipal buildings along both sides of First Street from intrusions by unauthorized individuals or vehicles operated without expressed permission from local law enforcement officials or city officials responsible for security within those boundaries). On February 13, 1969 President Richard Nixon announced that his administration would be making significant changes in American policing policy with respect to drug offenses; specifically he proposed that stateand local law enforcement agencies be given exclusive jurisdiction over marijuana possession prosecutions outside metropolitan areas where such prosecutions had been previously carried out under federal jurisdiction subject only to certain limited exceptions; these changes were effective on April 1, 1969 at which time stateand local law enforcement authorities throughout America began using marijuana possession prosecutions under stateand local jurisdictional authority rather than Federal jurisdiction wherethey had been beforeThis change effectively ended federally funded marijuana possession investigations conducted by uniformed officers assigned to Stateand Local Law Enforcement Agencies throughout America resulting in large reductions in pot possession arrests statewide although some continue intensive activities today through Bureaucratic mishandling

The Alabama Coast Guard received its start in 1909 when the state's first lighthouse was built. The state's first coast guard station was located in Trussville and manned by a detachment of Marines. In 1912, the state purchased an abandoned fishing pier for use as a coast guard station. In 1915, the state organized its first local police force and began providing law enforcement services on the Alabama coastline. In 1916, the state commissioned a new Coast Guard Station at Mobile Bay to serve as the core ofAlabama's coastal security system. The next year, federal funding was allocated to build a second Coast Guard Station in Trussville which became operational in 1921. After World War II, increased demand for coastal security led to additional installations being constructed throughout Alabama including Trussville's current Coast Guard Station which opened in 1978.
Trussville is a small city in southern Alabama. The population was 12,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Truss County. It is part of the Birmingham, Alabama metropolitan area. The community was founded by brothers John and Jesse Truss in 1851 as a small log settlement on bottomland between Mobile Bay and the Black Belt region of Alabama. The Truss family developed a prosperous cotton farmstead that included plantations in nearby Perryville and Madison counties until about 1900. Because of its location on the Cahaba River,Trussville became known for its production of white cloth and other textiles from local mills until after World War II when demand for aircraft parts declined throughout most Southern America due to increased production in Asia. In 1951, an act Sponsorized by Representative Don Quayle designated Trussville as the site for a new federal building complex to be built east of downtown Birmingham which would house both the United States Patent Office (USPO) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A year later, Congress passed legislation appropriating $27 million to create TVA's Bracelet Dam project downstream from Trussville which would provide power and water supplies for much of central Alabama while also creating flood protection features essential to many rural communities alongAlabama's Tombigbee River Valley. Construction began on TVA's Bracelet Dam project in 1955 and continued until 1963; it created one of the largest man-made lakes in America at depth within walking distance of most residents while also providing employment opportunities within adjacent residential tracts during construction phase. On November 3, 1960, President James Buchanan signed into law Public Law 89-634 making Trussville an incorporated city with full voting rights under state laws governing municipalities located more than forty miles from any major urban center; this Act provided financial support for public works projects within Municipal Districts established by Congress pursuant to provisions containedin various acts dating back to 1865 when Birmingham became municipal district No. 5 encompassng all or portionsof nine southeastern Alabama counties: Randolph, Escambia, Jefferson, Mobile, Montgomery proper., Butler, Fayette County & Morgan County including present day Union City & Muscle Shoals); these MUNICIPAL DISTRICTs were patterned after similar districts established by Congress followingthe American Civil War which had been designed as relief efforts following Union victory over Confederate forces; In 1973 tract adjoining present day Hoover Drive representing easternmost extent purchased from Mobile Electric Company removed from Butler County Limits en route to establishment of Auburn University campus
