The town’s first settler, John Gray, bought a piece of land in what is now Talladega County and began development of the community. He built a small log cabin and named it Gray’s Landing. In 1927, Mr. Gray donated land to the government for use as a rifle range. The range became operational and served as an important training ground for local militiamen during World War II. In 1947, Talladega Merchants Association passed a resolution authorizing the purchase of two shotguns from Jens Weichselmann of Germany for $500 each. On October 2nd, 1947, these two shotguns were transferred from Mr. Gray’s care to Postmaster Hardy Hines who placed them in the custody of the Talladega Police Department under contract with Brownells gun company. It should be noted that at this time “Talladega” was still unincorporated territory within present-day Montgomery County adjacent to modern day Alabama; it was not until 1970 when it became part of the county limits). Under Postmaster Hardy Hines’ ownership (1947-1970), pistol sales increased rapidly due to demand by law enforcement officers throughout central Alabama including local jails and prisons where they were employed as guards or inmates on various prison farms near MobileBayou Blanco (now called Bayou Joe) where most handguns were manufactured at that time………The pistol sales promotion continued through 1971 with featured postersiors advertising availability through all participating stores…..In 1969, post office officials decided that pistols would no longer be offered for sale through post office stores but rather directly from manufacturers thru agents….That same year Fenton Moore purchased property north of downtown Talladegawa on which he built his shooting center known today as Foxboro Firearms Factory…..Moore soon developed an extensive line of firearms manufacturing products including handgun cartridges…..By 1973 revolver sales had become so heavy at Foxboro Firearms Factory that Gunsmithing Supervisor Phil Pritchard decided to open his own shop(known today as Pritchard Arms)….From 1974-1978 pistols only sold direct from Pritchard Arms……During this time many factory employees relocated out into new buildings on State Street east of downtown which became known today as Midtown Shooting Place…… Continued growth in pistol production led to reorganization in 1979 which created 3 divisions: Pistol Manufacturing Division; Ammunition Production Division; Marketing/Promotion Division…………..As production escalatedPolice Chief Donnie Hardeman ordered initial manufacture single action revolvers instead of double action revolvers due to increasing crime rates……… assembling pistols ceased completely in 1984 however some guns still remain on hand….. As recently as 2006 there are still severalguns remaining on hand ready for purchase

Talladega is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,574 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Talladega is located on US Highway 95 and US Highway 231 north of Birmingham. The first white person to settle in what is now Talladega was John Fitch who arrived in 1802. By 1810, there were ten families living here and eleven stores open. In 1830, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through this area during the Battle of Fort Donelson and destroyed most of the local trade center including Fitch's store which did not remain standing for many years afterwards. In 1836, Daniel Boone entered into partnership with James Hogg to build a post road from Mobile to Harpers Ferry leading down the Cumberland River valley between Tuscaloosa and Chattanooga; their route took them through Talladega and it became known as "Hogg's Road". In 1840-41, one hundred men led by Captain Elijah Horton built a sawmill approximately two miles northeast of present day Talladega on a bluff overlooking the river below. This milling operation continued until about 1850 when it was replaced by an gristmill operated by Jeptha Newell & Son which stands today adjacent to Old Smith School (now called Gadsden Middle School). From about 1800 until 1860 or so almost all cotton production in Alabama took place within three miles of Montgomery where raw cotton was unloaded onto barges and delivered to market near Cahaba Point on Mobile Bayou for processing into yarn or fabric before being exported around Gulf Coast ports back home. However, due to southern opposition to slavery up until 1861 new land east of Montgomery became available for slave ownership after Alabama seceded from the Union while its neighbor Mississippi remained loyal to Uncle Sam throughout that entire period! As soon as secession occurred eastern Alabama quickly began developing large plantations long associated with slaveowners such as Judge John Swayne who owned several thousand slaves at Red Bayou plantation near Decatur/Montgomery before heading westward along I-95 toward Pensacola where he leased 1 million acres (4 square miles) from Spanish proprietor Antonio López de Santa Anna just south of Pensacola City limits – more than any other individual in that region! The largest single slaveowner in easternAlabama during these early years probably resided east of Montgomery at Red Bayou Plantation where over fifty free blacks worked alongside forty plus enslaved Africans under nominal ownerage beginning about 1790s! On October 16th1860 four soldiers wearing Confederate Army uniforms invaded nearby Selma town Limits during night time raids seeking supplies for Confederate forces waging battle against Union troops commanded by Major General Braxton Bragg – this event marked commencement of greater state activity against Rebels across southeasternAlabama altogether culminating with major battles at Bull Run Creek Bridgehead outside Selma later that year…. In 1865 Union General Nathan Bedford Forrest captured much needed supplies essential for his army invading Tennessee along I-5 corridor connecting Memphis thenceforth becoming quite powerful player within Reconstruction SouthwesternAlabama following Civil War! Finally turning his attention northwestward towards Huntsville some forty seven miles away from Nashville he purchased significant tracts bordering Georgia State Line via McLemore Ranch ceded ground now occupied by Eastman Kodak Company photo laboratory!) After Sherman’s March through Georgia+Tennessee carpet bombing campaign targeting enfeebled rebel infrastructure resulting in widespread destruction massive layoffs taking place throughout much rural southeastAlabama circa 1918–19 Negro sharecroppers working seventy five hour weeks yielding meager measly $1 per week upon harvest while whites labored six days per week producing goods & services worth millions annually rankling many throughout Transcending era racist attitudes regarding black people had been entrenched among white population since antebellum centuries !
