Selma who fought in the American Civil War and was later elected as a Confederate general officer. The Selmas built their home on Second Street in Selma and opened their coffee shop, The Coffee Shop, in 1903. The Coffee Shop became one of the most famous coffee shops throughout the South because it had high quality coffee beans from all over America and Europe that were roasted by its own team of roasters including David Schultz from Milwaukee Wisconsin and Carlos Mayorga from Buenos Aires Argentina. In 1962, Jens Weisse left his position as CEO at Starbucks to open his own business called 'Weisse & Sons' in Selma which continued to serve great coffee until 2000 when it closed its doors for good due to financial difficulties.
