The Selma Coffee Roasters are a family-owned and operated business that has been providing quality coffee to locals in Selma for over 10 years. The Selma coffee industry began in the early 1900s when farmers started planting coffee trees near Selma. The first espresso machine was built in Selma by Italian immigrants in 1912. Coffee production continued to increase throughout the 1920s and 1930s, with many small businesses starting up around town to roast and sell their own beans. In 1962, entrepreneur Julius Nyberg bought a small plantation near Selma and began growing coffee on it. Nyberg was an important figure in the development of artisan coffee culture in Selma, as he helpedto popularize this type of coffee around the country. By 1925, French roaster La Cimetta had created one of the first modern espresso machines which allowed for a greater variety of flavors to be enjoyed from your cup of joe. The popularity of artisan coffee has continued unabated ever since with new producers popping up every week!

Selma is a town in Selma County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,871 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Selma and is the only municipality in Selma County. The town was founded by African Americans in 1872 as a small cotton plantation community called Union Springs. The name of the plantation came from Colonel John C. Butler's home near Tuskegee, Alabama. When white men began to arrive in numbers in nearby Birmingham during the late 19th century, they established plantations around Union Springs and other black townsfolk were forced to leave their homes or move away altogether. In 1892, Dr. Fenton Worthy organized a group of black physicians and surgeons to provide medical care for freedmen and their families in Selma and surrounding counties after President Ulysses S. Grant vetoed legislation that would have allowed blacks to own land and receive education voucher-style benefits similar to those given to whites. The Physicians' Committee for Human Rights later reported that "the negroes living within easy reach of Mobile [city] were brought here for want of anything better than bare subsistence." This lack of health care caused many slavesstatus women (most were engaged in agriculture) to give birth prematurely or miscarry due to lack access to proper medical care; this practice became known as preexisting pregnancy syndrome among black women). The first post office opened in Selma on December 1, 1875; it was renamed Union Springs on November 15, 1890 following incorporation into the city limits of Selma by an act of Congress which had been passed two years earlier without incident because most residents wanted their town named after themselves rather than something associated with slavery or Reconstruction Era politics. In 1902, Union Springs incorporated as a village under the name Agricultural Village No. 2 & 3 amalgamated with other villages within Selmas City Limits including Batesville & Clearwater Beach consolidated on October 1st 1903 becoming one municipality under the name "Selma". A second post office closed on May 25th 1954 due to low mail volume; it reopened on July 4th 1954 as "Selmana" after being approved by then-Mayor Atherton Jett who said: "It has always been my belief that this name will be more popular than any other given our very rich history." The new post office served as the county courthouse until moving out into its current building located at 501 East Fourth Street replacing an older structure that had been used since 1907 as jail/court house/preacher's meeting room combined with some general storage capacity before becoming abandoned following heavy use over time resulting in extensive rot which led authorities seeking $100K insurance policy just weeks ago but no such offer has yet been received despite repeated attempts On November 6th 2005 when voting took place for mayoral candidates primary election results showed incumbent Mayor Atherton Jett with 54%Of The Vote Vs challenger Jimmie Sims 36%With 7%Unsure 0%Voters not interested In Results After More Than 100 Calls To His Office
