Saraland is a small town in Birmingham, Alabama. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on Alabama's Eastern border and is bordered by Mobile County to the north, Tuscaloosa County to the east, and Perry County to the south. The town was founded in 1837 as a station on the Santa Fe Railroad. Saraland became an incorporated city in 1907. In 1954, Saraland annexed part of nearby Cross Creek Township. The annexation created a new borough within Saraland called Cross Creek Borough which had a population of 3,895 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, Cross Creek Borough has a total area of , all land. According to legend, Saraland was once home to three bears that roamed free and hunted deer and other animals for food without being hunted by humans. Today there are no evidence of any such bear sightings or animal life in Saraland according to most residents but some claim that they have heard stories about Sasquatch living nearby during certain times during history periods or even today if you listen closely enough you can sometimes hear them walking around outside their homes late at night
