The first Coast Guard officer to arrive at the station was Captain J.J. Carney. The present Coast Guard Station at Prichard is a Multiple Use Training and Equipment Facility (MUTEF) that has been in operation since 1978 and is used by both the Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies. It is home to the Commanding Officer's Office, Headquarters Squadron, Sector South Atlantic Divisional Headquarters and four squadrons of patrol boats including two MH-60S Seahawk helicopters. The East Point Light Rail Station provides transportation for personnel and supplies between Station headquarters and other parts of town. At its peak in 1984, the coast guard had a complement of over 2,000 men and women who patrolled Alabama's waters 24/7/365!Today, there are only a few hundred men assigned to coastal security patrols statewide due to budget cuts; however, management continues to maintain an efficient coast guard presence by training new officers as well as providing equipment for short term use when needed most.

Prichard is a small town in Alabama, United States. It is located on the east side of the state and is bordered by Marshall County to the north, Choctaw County to the east, and Tallapoosa County to the south. The population was 9,362 as of the 2010 census. The community was named after Samuel Prichard, an early settler in what is now Prichard. The first school in Prichard was built in 1868 by Mrs. Sarah Brownrick. A post office was established at Prichard in 1871, and it continued to be used until 1907. In 1906, Harry Potter opened his first restaurant in what is now downtown Prichard. Harry Potter's remains are still standing today on Main Street near the old bank building that housed the store from 1908-1963. "Harry Potter's" success led to other businesses opening up around town such as a barbershop/shampoo salon called "The Barber Shop", a grocery store called "The Grocery Store", and a movie theater called "The Movie Theatre". In 1958, construction began on what would become known as Parkland Memorial Hospital which would serve Prichard and surrounding areas for over 50 years It wasn't until 1990 when Highway 90 became bypassed through town which stopped traffic from flowing into or out of town creating much needed retail space for locals In recent years development has resumed with several new businesses opening up including an online retailer called "123 Cutters" and a hair salon/spa called "Hair Unlimited". historic marker erected by city of prichards residents circa 2006

The Coast Guard's mission includes protecting America's coasts and waters by enforcing laws that protectautical navigation; guarding critical infrastructure; investigating marine spills; rescuing sailors and fishing vessels; vectoring disease-carrying mosquitoes from populated areas; conducting law enforcement activity including investigations into crime committed on our nation's coasts;and performing other duties as assigned by Congress or prescribed by regulation of the Secretary of Homeland Security.

In 1819, John Prichard settled in what is now Prichard, Alabama. He was a landowner and miller who became a leader in early Birmingham. In 1838, he donated land to the city of Birmingham for its first public school. The school was built on current-day Moore Street and named after him. Over time, other leaders in Birmingham helped build more than 20 schools within the city limits. John Prichard's donations are significant because they helped make Birmingham one of the most thriving cities in America during the late 19th century. It is also worth noting that his philanthropy remained influential well into the 21st century. In addition to his donation to the city of Birmingham, John Prichard also contributed money to several universities and charities throughout his life. These donations have left an lasting legacy on American society and culture.
In 1859, general John C. Prichard was named commandant of the Alabama Militia. In 1861, he helped lead the state's Confederate military effort against the Union. After the Confederacy's collapse, Prichard served as an official in Reconstruction South Carolina.
