The Prattville Airforce Base was first established in 1941 as a Fighter Wing, and the first squadron was activated on October 25th, 1941. In 1951, the wing was redesignated as The Eighth Air Force and moved to Macon AFB, Georgia. After being stationed at Macon for a year, it relocated to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio in 1953. It served as an operational base for Tactical Air Command until it merged with The United States Army Tactical Air Command on February 15th 1957. The wing then became known as The Eighth Air Force (Airlift) and provides aerial refueling services to combat units within the United StatesArmy Ground Forces. On November 1st 1979 the wing was disbanded and its personnelager absorbed into other USAF wings. The Prattville Aeronautical Museum is a nonprofit museum in Prattville, Alabama that was founded in 1984. It is the only airforce museum in the state of Alabama and it contains more than 2,000 artifacts from the United States Air Force.

The town was founded in 1881 by John and Martha Pratt. It was named for General Samuel Pratt, who fought in the American Civil War. The Pratts donated land to the town in memory of their late father. Prattville is home to several businesses and schools including Union High School, which has been renamed for retiring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall; Prattville Elementary School; and Monterey Baptist Church which serves as the local church and community center. Prattville was established in 1892 by J.F. Pratt and his brothers, George and John. The town was named for General David Pratt, the brother of J.F. Pratt, who served as a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War and later became governor of Alabama. The first store in Prattville opened its doors on Main Street on July 1, 1892. At that time, the town consisted of only a few homes and a small population of about 50 people. The early years of Prattville were difficult; it was not until 1906 that the community achieved any level of success. That year, they developed a water system which allowed them to sell milk to neighboring towns without having to go through local farmers. In 1915, they built their first school; that same year also saw their first football team formed from local men and boys playing together for money or food donations from friends or family members. By 1922, there were enough residents within the town limits to form their own government - this would be the beginning of what would become known as "town government." The Dearborn County Courthouse was completed in 1928 and served as home court for many years before being moved to Marshall County in 2000 following an effort by then-Governor Sonny Perdue to improve courthouse access in north Alabama due to budget cuts caused by the global recession. In 1938, First National Bank merged with Trust Company National Corporation making it one of the largest banks in Alabama at that time - it still is today one of Prattsville's most important businesses! That same year also saw significant development when a large textile mill closed down within walking distance of town causing great losses for both locals and developers alike - all good news for those who had invested in property near the mill! In 1957, Walter Vandemarela founded The Vandemarela Foundation which helps support various causes throughout south central Alabama including helping children with cancer receive treatment; working towards improving education opportunities for low-income families; giving back to area churches through fundraising events; supporting music programs acrossAlabama; etc.; among others! In 1968, Drs., Edwin Bogan (then) and Maurice Hinson (now) opened DeKalb Orthopedic Institute which continues providing quality care services today! Prattville has seen some very tough times over the years but has always bounced back relatively quickly - thanks largely to its volunteer fire department which has been able to respond quickly when fires have broken out elsewhere within town boundaries!
