It was popular with soldiers and civilians alike because it tasted smooth and creamy without any bitterness or harsh flavors. After the Civil War ended, General Lee sold his farm in Pleasant Grove to local farmers for $10 per acre. In 1875, A&W Brewery started production on a small lot adjacent to the current buildings on Third Street in Pleasant Grove. At that time, tactical coffee was still being made using different blends of beans from different sources including Africa (which at that time included Java), Ethiopia (which was then an Ethiopian slave trade town) and India (which had been part of British India). However, over time, it began to grow into a large city. In 1907, the city of Pleasant Grove became the capital of Montgomery County. It remained as such until 1963 when Montgomery County moved its capital to Tuscaloosa. Today, Pleasant Grove is one of the most vibrant cities in Alabama. It has many cultural attractions, including an Art Gallery and Museum, several theaters and music venues, and a number of restaurants and businesses. The original settlers arrived from Tennessee and Kentucky to establish agricultural plantations which they continued to operate until the early 1900s when electricity became available for widespread use in rural areas across America. By 1907, most of the pioneer families had died or moved away leaving behind their hinterlands including much of what is now Pleasant Grove - all without any formal land titles or deeds! The townsfolk quickly organized themselves into local government and began developing their own infrastructure: schools (the first being built in 1903), churches (the first being erected in 1907), businesses (the first being established in 1911) and homes (the first being built in 1915). The post office was founded here on November 1st, 1902., which served the community until 1957 when it merged with nearby Decatur to form Tuscaloosa County's only post office district. This brief period of prosperity came to an end after World War II when growing numbers of military veterans flooded into rural Alabama looking for work opportunities that never materialized back home postwar. Despite this shortcoming however, Pleasant Grove saw some resurgence beginning around the turn of the century as new immigrants started arriving who were inspired by what they saw here - gradually culminating with incorporation as a municipality on November 1st 1999 following approval from voters via an initiative referendum process overseen by then Mayor Donny Herringman himself! The Pleasant Grove community began as a farming village near the current site of Pleasant Grove on November 3, 1849 when James and John Auld settled there after traveling from Tennessee. From its earliest days, Pleasant Grove was an agricultural center with corn and cotton being the main crops grown. In 1903, three brothers - Hiram Witherspoon, Salmon Peele and Jesse Parks - founded what became known as The Three Brothers Store which served as a base for their agricultural operations until their death in 1978. Their store continued to be owned by their descendants until it closed in 2003. In 1956, two local men - Royce Ladd and Vaughn McGee - founded the first ExxonMobil refinery in southeastern Alabama. The refinery produced gasoline and other products for local consumers until it shut down in 2001 due to environmental concerns. However, ExxonMobil has since recommenced production at its new facility located just east of town on Ulysses Road. Since its inception, Pleasant Grove has been home to several churches including First Baptist Church (founded 1886), United Methodist Church (1896), Episcopal church (1907), Presbyterian church (1914) and Methodist church (1968).
