Pleasant Grove, Alabama is a small town in Coffee County, Alabama. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first coffee beans were brought to Pleasant Grove by James Witherspoon in 1875. He and his family grew coffee beans and sold them to local farmers. In 1916, Mr. Witherspoon's son, Alpheus Witherspoon, started the first paper mill in Coffee County and named it after his father. The mill produced high-quality coffee for local consumers for more than fifty years until it closed in 1996. In 1968, the Crawford family opened their own roaster and grocery store in Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Grove was founded in 1824 by John H. McCullough and his wife, Martha Ann McCullough. The McCullough family ran a grocery store until it closed in 1829. They then started a small mill which ground corn and flour for their farmhands. In 1834, the McCulloughs moved to what is now Pleasant Grove from nearby Decatur. They opened a general store and built a home on the present site of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 1840. The house still stands today, used as an office building by the town government until 1954. In 1865, Pleasant Grove became an election precinct during Reconstruction following the American Civil War. This year also saw the first commercial printing press in Alabama when Jno Sikes printed "The Auburn Daily Republican" at 9am from his press on Main Street. In 1898, Pleasant Grove was incorporated as a town under the name of Enterpriseville after Jno Sikes donated land for its establishment. The population of Enterpriseville peaked at around 100 people in 1916 but declined rapidly due to World War I and other conflicts that hit Alabama during that time period. In 1951, Enterpriseville merged with neighboring Decatur to form Pleasant Grove-Decatur Townships though continued community activities continue today within each township boundary (just like always!).
Pleasant Grove is a small town in Huntsville, Alabama. It was founded in 1836 by James and Nancy Smith. The population was 10,000 at the time of the 2010 census. Pleasant Grove is located just east of the city of Huntsville on I-565. It is bordered to the north by Decatur County, to the east byMadison County, and to the south by Jackson County. The Musgrove River flows through Pleasant Grove. The first settlers in what would become Pleasant Grove were James and Nancy Smith who arrived from Kentucky in 1836. They built a log cabin on a hill overlooking their farmstead which they named "Pleasant Grove." Their descendants continue to live there today. In 1839, local farmers erected a toll road from Decatur County through Pleasant Grove and Madison County to connect with Mobile Bayou (now part of I-565). Thisroad was known as "The Old Road". In 1848, John Brown came into possession of land near what would become Pleasant Grove after he staged an unsuccessful raid on Harper's Ferry during the Indian Removal War. He established himself here and began trading goods with Native Americans. In 1850, he moved his family from Harper's Ferry to this area and started a gristmill that still stands today along Musgrove River.. In 1862, when Union Army General Nathan Bedford Forrest invaded Alabama for political reasons, he selected this area as his headquarters; here he made his last stand before being surrounded and killed at Battle Mountain outside Sulphur Springs three days later. Many homes in present day Pleasant Grove date back to these years including those of Mrs. Forrest's grandchildren who reside in Nashville TN today! In 1865 Confederate General Robert Ewell decided that rather than surrender at Gettysburg he would march southward instead towards Montgomery where many people lived - specifically around Fort Payne - thus beginning Lawrence Ferguson's famous Raid on Birmingham that year which left over 100 dead or wounded among other things! More recently two wars have taken place within its borders: World War II with battles taking place all around it (including nearby Chattanooga) while also experiencing 9/11 which took place less than 1 mile away from where much of present day Pleasant Grove used to be situated: One can only imagine how unsafe it must have been then! As such despite some very harsh times – most notably WWII – PleasantGrove has managed to keep its community spirit alive even though many residents have moved away over time due to various changes within our ever changing economy etc etcetc... However everyone should never give up hope especially when change does sometimes occur!! Restoration starts with reevaluating old ways systemically!!! #ROOTSFORREST

In 1907, Pleasant Grove incorporated as a town under the name of "Alabaster". In 1969, when Jefferson County was enlarged to include all of Montgomery County, Pleasant Grove became an official part of that county.
