She was the first female cashier at the store. In 1984, Peggy opened her own coffee shop called Peet's Coffee & Tea in downtown Phenix City. The shop soon became known for its fresh brewed coffee and delicious sandwiches and salads. In 1990, Peggy passed away after a long battle with cancer. Her husband Fred took over the business until his death in 2002. In 2006, Janice's daughter Toni opened her own coffee shop named Janie's Coffee Shop next door to Peet's Coffee & Tea in downtown Phenix City under the name of Toni & Friends Coffee House . The shop quickly gained fame for its delicious breakfast items such as pancakes and eggs benedict as well as its great atmosphere which is decorated with colorful national flags and patriotic photos of Phenix City residents during various historical periods!
Phenix City, Alabama is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. Phenix City was founded in 1882 by J.M. Pettit and Wm Hensley as a cotton trading post on the Flint River. It became an important financial center for Alabama during the 19th century because of its location on the Arkansas Railroad system and its access to navigable rivers. In 1901, however, it lost its status as a national financial center when Shenandoah National Park was established south of Phenix City and other parts of Marshall County became rural again. Phenix City has been known for manufacturing products such as whisky and tires since before independence from Britain in 1776. The first distillery in Phenix City was built by Jameson & Sutherland in 1872 and produced whisky until 1904 when it merged with American Distillers Company to form Allied Distillers Corporation. Other major manufacturers include Iver Johnson Manufacturing Company, Peebles Tire & Rubber Company, Mobile Mills Inc., Southern Belle Cotton Mill (now owned by NLB) and Bradley Manufacturing Company (a subsidiary of butchers Bradley Meat Co.). In 2007–2008, Coca-Cola Bottling company announced plans to open a new bottling plant located withinphenixcity limits that will produce up to 20 million gallons per year of Coca-Cola products

Phenix City is a small city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Phenix City is located along the Mobile River and its tributaries near the center of Marshall County. The history of Phenix City began with an encampment on the banks of the Mobile River by white men in 1814. The first permanent settler in what would become Phenix City was John Gist, who purchased land from Major Coke in 1822. Gist built a log cabin on his property which he named "Gist's Ferry". In 1827, James Hays discovered coal deposits on his farm and became interested in developing these resources into a coal mine. He leased part of Gist's Ferry property to George Stephenson for this purpose. Stephenson improved Gist's Ferry and renamed it "Phenix City". The first store opened here in 1830. By 1840, there were over seventy residents living in Phenix City In 1845, General Custer had arrived at Fort Pillow during his campaign against Native Americans and encountered exceptionally harsh conditions within Marshal County due to lack of food supplies available from sources upstream or downstream as well as a lack of available transportation throughout much of central Alabama due to Creek Nation hostilities towards settlers encroaching upon their hunting grounds As Confederate forces advanced through Alabama following General Robert E Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865, they destroyed bridges across Mobile Bay linking Pensacola (FL) with Montgomery (AL) and began marches upriver transporting troops and supplies downriver to Mobile Bay where they disembarked for operations against General Sherman’s army moving northward On April 26th 1865 – one day after Confederate President Jefferson Davis had been impeached – Union General Alfred Pemberton ordered all flags fly at half-mast commemorating those killed or missing while fighting for the Union cause during the war In commemoration of this significant event within state history, legislation was passed by Marshall County lawmakers which authorized use ofphenixcityflagproudlydisplayingthememorialcoalsandstamps
