Pelham is a small town in Alabama that is located about 20 miles east of Birmingham. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Pelham's history can be traced back to 1835 when the area was known as "Pelham Plantation". In 1881, Colonel George Washington Payne bought the plantation and changed its name to Pelham Plantation. In 1906, the Payne family sold their interest in Pelham Plantation and it became part of the Walton family. The Walton family sold their interest in Pelham Plantation in 1943 and it reverted to its original name, PelHAM Village. The town of PelHAM Village began developing around 1951 when developers purchased land from the Walton family for use as a community center and shopping district. A new school was built on the site in 1957 and named after Mrs. Walton- Cummings (a descendent of Colonel George Washington Payne). The first store opened on November 3rd, 1957 and was called "The Walnut Grove Shopping Center." In 1966, another store, "The Oaks", was added to the shopping district. By 1970, there were six stores in pelHAM Village - three grocery stores and four department stores. In 1960, local officials decided that a new high school would be necessary since there were no schools within walking distance of pelHAM Village residents. Construction began on what is now known as "Alabama High" High School on September 6th, 1960 and completed on October 2nd, 1961. The new high school served students from pelHAM Village through 1989 when it merged with nearby Hoover High School to form "Alabama Southern" High School which still serves students frompelHAMVillage today! In 1969-1970 an addition to "The Oaks" store was constructed which became known astheSupermarket Annexe."During this time period," said Barbara Cokerhead Assistant Superintendent for Schools for Montgomery County Schools "(theSupermarket Annexe) also served as(thetown's) first post office."

Pelham is a community in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area. The first people to live in Pelham were French Canadians who arrived during the early 1800s. They built log cabins and other small houses on what is now Pelham's Main Street. In 1835, a man named John Pemberton founded Pelham Academy which soon became one of the leading schools in Alabama. One of Mr. Pemberton's daughters married Judge George Washington Minton and their son, Judge George Washington Minton Jr., began attending Pelham Academy as well. In 1859,Judge Minton donated land for a public school in Pelham which was known as "Minton School." The townspeople erected a frame schoolhouse on this site in 1861 and classes began instruction from then on. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), General Andrew Johnson ordered all schools closed in Alabama due to lack of funds. However, many students managed to find ways to continue learning even though their schools were not open. For example, Reverend John Hogg attended Jefferson Davis' April 1865 inauguration despite being banned from south Alabama because he advocated for secessionism! Many African Americans also took advantage of opportunities that opened up during Reconstruction (1868-1913). After the war ended and Reconstruction came to an end, many blacks did not want to return to plantations where they had been working since before Reconstruction ever happened! So they decided to stay in Alabama and start new lives there instead of moving back into Georgia or Mississippi where they would have likely been lynched! In 1923, Drumm family bought 500 acres (2 km²) north of town for $10 per acre ($140 per hectare) after seeing an advertisement for that property by local farmers looking for farmland with excellent drainage systems for cotton production. TheDrumm family started farming there and it has remained one ofAlabama's most important agricultural communities ever since! Today, Drumm Cotton Mills produces more than 2 million pounds (1 billion kg)of cotton each year! In 1954, two brothers by the name of Troup purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) east of town from Drumm Cotton Mills Ltd./Drummer Farms Inc./Eaton Farms/Lambert Enterprises Co./Gentry & Sons Nursery Company/Mason Hardware Store/Belcher Tobacco Company along with about 60 buildings including hospitals and service stations; creating what is now known as Troup County bordering Hoover County

However, since 2000s there has been a significant resurgence of industry in Pelham as it becomes increasingly competitive with other cities in the state.
