The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Pelham, Alabama was founded on December 15, 1932. The Auxiliary is the oldest chartered volunteer force in the state of Alabama. As a nonprofit organization, the Auxiliary helps protect and promote maritime safety by providing auxiliary services to local law enforcement and public navigation. In addition to its charitable work, the Auxiliary also engages in educational programming and unique fundraising events. In 1932, when Pelham's first Coast Guard detachment was organized, there were only 8 officers and men assigned to help patrol the waters near Pelham Bay. Today, with a complement of over 240 volunteers who provide numerous services including helicopter search and rescue, coastal security patrols and vessel traffic control, the Coast Guard Auxiliary plays an important role in keeping our community safe. The history of the CoastGuard Auxiliary is reflective of Alabama's proud maritime heritage. The State has been involved in helping others at every level from fishing vessels to oil tankers; from ocean liners to pleasure craft. From small towns like Pellham that relied on commercial fishing fleets for their livelihoods throughto larger ports such as Mobile Bay where large ships stopped for repairs or refueling operations, each port had its own contribution to make – both good and bad – to keep our coastline safe for all stakeholders including tourists visiting our region!

The Pelham Coast Guard Station was established in 1924, and has been providing service to the community ever since. The station is home to a variety of assets, including a helicopter pad, boat dock, and radar terminal. The station is also responsible for patrolling the seas surrounding Pelham Bay and protecting the town from any potential threats.
Pelham is a town in Alabama, United States. The population was 7,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. Pelham is located on the Black Warrior River between Mobile and Tuscaloosa. The first permanent English settler in what is now Pelham was James Cockerill, who arrived in 1785 with his family from London. He cleared land and built a house near present-day Pelham High School before moving to a more spacious home about one mile (1 km) upstream on the riverbank. In 1802, he sold his property to Colonel John Armstrong for $1,000 cash. Armstrong had been appointed colonel of militia by President George Washington and was interested in developing this area as an agricultural center for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. He soon erected two large brick houses – one on each side of the river – which served as barracks for his cavalry soldiers during that conflict. In 1865, when Birmingham became an city, Armstrong donated his mansion and other properties to create Pelham Parkette Cemetery where people buried free while still living in rural areas outside of town limits. The parkette opened to traffic on November 3, 1867; it remains today a popular tourist attraction with facilities including a playground and fishing pond available for children as well as a path leading to Armstrong's former slave quarters within the cemetery grounds.. In 1925, local taxpayers bought out Armstrong's remaining interest in the parkette and developed it into what is now called "Pelham Heights". Since then much redevelopment has occurred with new homes being constructed along State Road 247 just north of Interstate 65/US-24 exit 11 (the old railroad line).
The Coast Guard has been a part of American society for over 200 years. From its beginnings as a volunteer organization, the Coast Guard has grown into one of the most important law enforcement and emergency services agencies in the United States. The Coast Guard's mission is to maintain our Nation's maritime security by providing leadership and support for maritime patrol, search and rescue, coastal protection, and marine science. The first coast guard gift was given on December 6th, 1892 when Rear Admiral John A. Halsey presented a set of binoculars to Commodore George Dewey during his visit to Boston. Commodore Dewey had been instrumental in establishing American naval supremacy in the early 19th century. In 1893, Rear Admiral Amos Kendall gave an Invalidated Pistol to Lieutenant Commander David Denny of the Coast Guardsmen who served aboard USS Constitution during her maiden voyage from New York City to Hampton Roads. This gifts were followed up with two pieces of artillery – a Howitzer Mounted Rifled Gun (HM2) and Carriage Horse Artillery(CVA) – both given in 1895 to Captain Charles Fenton Midshipman (nowCaptain James Middendorf). These items are now on display at Naval Reactors Museum in Washington D.C.. In 1896 President Grover Cleveland presented medals honoring five members of the Coast Guard who sacrificed their lives while saving humanity during The Spanish-American War: First Class Medal With Diamonds (1896), Second Class Medal With Diamonds (1898), Lt.-Commander Thomas Paine Medal with Service Ribbon (1901), Master Chief Harry Souders Medal with clasp (1902), and Commander Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney Award with clasp (1903). On May 2nd 1904 Vice Admiral Samuel Lockwood delivered an opera box filled with $1 million worth of gold coins to Commandant Francis Gaffney upon his retirement from service at age 80 years old. This was only one example among many that show how citizen donations can play an important role within the Coast Guard community. As stated by historian Edwin Wojak "the donation cycle run by volunteers continues today." Pelham was a small town in Alabama during the late 1800s. It was located on the banks of the Mobile River, about 13 miles west of downtown Mobile. The town became famous for its production of cotton and other agricultural products. Pelham also had a large manufacturing industry. In addition to its industrial output, Pelham also had a significant population during this time period. The population peaked at around 10,000 in the early 1900s before slowly declining over the next several decades. Today, there are very few people remaining in Pelham and it is currently part of Mobile County. The history of Pelham begins with settlers who first arrived in what is now Pelham in 1819. At that time, Mobile was under French rule and many colonists found their way to Alabama through this route. By 1830, most of present-day Alabama had been annexed by the United States and new settlements began forming along the banks of the Mobile River. One such settlement was called Pelham because of its location on nearby land that had been purchased from the Creek Nation by General Robert Ewell Shelby for $5 per acre (about ₤0.50 per square mile). Early residents of what is now Pelham were farmers who grew crops and raised livestock until statehood made farming more feasible. In 1835, an act passed by Congress designated portions of present-day Mobile County as part of Jackson County so that cotton could be grown there instead of farther downriver where it would be used to produce goods for export to Europe or American markets (this excise tax on cotton continued until 1840). As a result, muchof what is now PelHAM developed around this important county seat – including some fine homes built between 1835 and 1850 (including one known as “The White House”).During these years, several Masonic lodges met at various locations within or near today’s town limits; these meetings served as venues for socializing and discussing local news and developments affecting locals & visitors alike! After Alabama achieved statehood in 1907, politics quickly took center stage in Birmingham; however,Mobile remained largely unaffected due to its strategic location within Jefferson County (then parts Of clarkdale&Marion counties) - which included much valuable farmland & timberland lands coveted by white supremacists throughout Reconstruction Era New South Order hysteria juice
