Mountain Brook is a small town in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mobile–Ft. Myers, Alabama Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mountain Brook began as a farming community on the site of present-day Mountain Brook Elementary School and Mountain Brook Middle School. In 1892 the first post office in Escambia County opened in Mountain Brook with Wm Hargrave as its first postmaster. By 1912 there were 10 businesses in MountainBrook and it had a population of 250 people. In 1923 the first new school building was built in MountainBrook and it served grades K-6 until 1969 when it became known as Mountainbrook High School. In that yearEscambia County Schools merged with Montgomery County Schools to form the Mobile–Ft. Myers Combined Schools System which still operates MountainBrook High School today under that name. In 1970 an addition to mountainbrook high school was built which servedgrades 7-12; this building is now known as Appalachian Valley Academy (). In 1984 an addition to mountainbrook middle school was built which servedgrades 6-8; this building is now known as Northwoods Collegiate Academy (). A new elementary school called Friendship Hills Elementary School was constructed in 2006 on land adjacent to northwoods collegiate academy and serves students from prekindergarten through 5th grade;the original Friendship Hills Elementary also stood on the site of present day Mtn brook park . The current elementary school building replaced an old one that burned down in 2005 while serving students from prekindergarten through 8th grade The most recent update to mountainbrook's infrastructure came during Hurricane Ivan when state funding for storm damage was restored Mountain Brook has remained largely unchanged since its incorporation into Mobile/Ft Myers combined schools system over 50 years ago; however, many aspects of life have changed for residents including advances in technology such as online education being offered at both schools A variety of cultural events are held throughout the year including traditional dances like pow wow and chicken dancing , art shows , potluck meals etc., all open to public participation Some highlights include: Folklorico Night - Each October 3rd ; Renaissance Faire - Every April 15th ; Chicken Dance Rehearsal Day - August 14th ; Country Music Rehearsal Day - September 12th ; Christmas Dinner - December 25th (); Weavers Ball - February 17th (); bingo night (year round) Many social activities are also held throughout the year such as 4 wheel drive club meets (MWC), golf tournaments (Golf Outdoors Unlimited), quilting bees, bake sales, picnics and more

Mountain Brook is a small town located in rural Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The community was founded in 1879 by James H. Mountain and his family. It is the only incorporated town in Jefferson County. The population of Mountain Brook was 5,811 at the 2000 census. Mountain Brook is located on the southern edge of Jefferson County and extends into Mobile County to the east and north. It lies within the Birmingham–Jefferson County Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of over 1 million people. The community is home to two shopping malls, two hospitals, four schools, and several businesses including an auto dealership and a grocery store. Mountain Brook began as a small farming community with only twelve families residing in it at its founding. By 1919, however, the population had swollen to over one hundred residents due to immigrants from Russia who had come to work on nearby farms during prohibition years. In 1927, mountain brooks were named for General Hugh Auchinleck (1863-1945) who fought in World War I and served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in France before becoming Commander-in-Chief Allied Expeditionary Force Europe during Operation Overlord during World War II. The first post office opened in Mountain Brook on December 22nd 1879 under the name Ofalbany Township after James H., Sr.'s brother Amos Ofalbany (1784-1867). The Postmaster general decided that mountain brooks should have their own name because they are “a beautiful stream running through an Allegheny Mountains range” according to one account while others claim that postmasters found it difficult to find appropriate names for streams because they sounded too much like other words such as "gorge" or "creek". On March 6th 1880the new post office changed its name to Mountainbrook after James H., Jr.'s father James H., III's suggestion because “the place looked very \mountain\likebrook from where we stood” according to one source while another claims that this change was made so that mail could be delivered more quickly from neighboring towns towards Montgomery since “everybody knew about [MountainBrook] now” according to history buffs today who still visit the area today! Mtnbrook has continued growign steadily ever since then! In 1907 there were just 10 residents living here but by 1925 when census counted 580 people <strong> Mtnbrook had become an incorporated town.
