By 1860, there were over 1,000 residents living in Moody. Most of these people were African Americans who worked on plantation jobs or collected taxes from local farmers. However, during the late 19th century many white individuals also moved into Moody due to economic opportunities brought about by railroad development within Montgomery County. Because of this change in demographics; Moody began to become more racially diverse throughout its history.
