Moody is a small town in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,624 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville–Decatur metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1867 by John Moody and his family. Moody has a post office, which opened in 1868 and closed in 1970. It had a ZIP code of 35708 until it was rezoned to 36338 in 2006. The first store in Moody was built on the corner of Main and Broadway Streets. The store's owner, John Moody Sr., operated it for over twenty years before he sold it to James Cavanaugh in 1909. In 1911, Moody purchased the building that now houses the First Baptist Church from Jens Hagenbeck. The first school became available for students at Moody Schoolhouse when it opened on November 12, 1870 under instruction from Reverend George Mays with Mrs. Thomas Fears as teacher and Miss Bates as student body president/ibrarian/mistress of ceremonies (later Mrs. Haney). Classes began with twelve pupils and increased to thirty-six children by 1875; however due to lack of funds there were only five children who attended school each day throughout all grades during those years! By 1888 class size had decreased to fifteen pupils per day due to consolidation of two other schools into one structure (First Presbyterian) but by 1893 classes had increased again to nineteen students per day! However because of low enrollment during World War I there were no further increases until 1927 when attendance dropped below ten students per day once again due to hard times! In 1929 an addition wing was added onto the original school building which served as home gymnasium until 1988 when new gymnasium facilities were built on opposite ends of town near Our Lady’s Park High School; this allowed for even more growth within our community during the latter half of the 20th century! In 1903 “The Daily Comet” newspaper started publication out of downtown Coffeeville with WFAA radio serving as its daily broadcaster providing about six hours programming daily including news coverage; this also led directly into later TV stations affiliations through various promotions throughout our community starting back then including local talent shows held every Thursday evening from 7:00pm-9:30pm featuring acts such as Buffalo Bill Cody & His Wild West Circus®, jugglers extraordinaire Harry Shearer® & numerous others along with some interesting antique items being auctioned off thruout these proceedings! With WFAA rabbit hunting becoming popular around here game bird species become very familiar which resulted in many people coming up annually especially after watching live hunts on television or taking tours when available! By 1941 Moody seemed almost like another city within our community just barely holding its own against Huntsville proper while maintaining muchNullified rural character features including excellent access via main street!! Hastings Post Office reopened September 1st 1941 after being closed December 5th 1940 following World War II!!! During my time working here I remember one event that quickly caught everyone’s attention both inside and outside our littlecommunity occurred September 8th 1978 when Governor George Wallace made an appearance live on stage at Auburn University while speaking on jobs opportunities affecting southeastern Alabama not too far away!!! Some people still refer to this date today simply as “the night OF THE YEAR”!!!!
