Moody, Alabama is a small town located in the center of pre-industrial Tennessee Valley. It was founded by freedmen in 1872 after they were emancipated from slavery. The first coffee shop opened in Moody in 1895 and was operated by two men, W.H. Grimes and his nephews. In 1912, Moody became the first town in Alabama to have a post office with its own mail service. The first coffee cooperative was formed here in 1922 and was called the Moody Coffee Cooperative Association. In 1928, Moody’s population had shrunk to just over 100 people but it continued to grow as other villages began to explore the potential of growing coffee hereabouts. By 1934, there were six coffee shops operating in Moody with an additional five Beans & Bites grocery stores added during that year alone. By 1941, there were twenty-four cafes and restaurants scattered throughout the community with more than 1,000 subscribers to its phone services which allowed customers to order their caffeine fix anywhere at any time within reason! Currently, Moody boasts one of the most eclectic coffee cultures around with several different roasts available as well as various flavored creams and syrups made from different beans!

In 1916, Moody married Beatrice Fenton and established himself as an agricultural producer with dozens of acres of land around Moody Station on the Tombigbee River.. In 1927, Moody purchased 1,000 shares of United States Steel Corporation for $10 per share and became its president and CEO. He served until his death in 1957 at age 80 years old from a heart attack caused by overwork stress at United States Steel Corporation.. He is buried at One Mile Hill Cemetery south of downtown Tuscaloosa with his wife Beatrice Fenton and children Harry (Harry) Moody Jr., Jane (Johnnie), Franklin (Franklin) Moody III, Alice Mae (Alice Mae), Lloyd Amedee Easley-Doyle (Lloyd Amedee Doyle)), Marguerite Davenport-Humphrey (Marguerite Davenport Humphrey)), Herbert Witherspoon (Herbert Witherspoon)), Marion Vernon Earle(Marion Vernon Earle)).

Moody, Alabama is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 705 at the 2000 census. Moody is named after brigadier general and statesman James Moody. It was incorporated as a town on July 1, 1887. The first post office in Moody was established on March 17, 1827 by General James Moody Sr. The town name originated from the fact that the surrounding country was covered with trees so heavily armed that they resembled mountains and it took many men to remove all of the branches and limbs until only an imposing stand remained standing. The first school in Moody opened in 1829 and served grades one through five. In 1881, the Alabama Legislature designated it as a city and renamed it for General James Moody Jr., who had died two years earlier. The city's incorporation date is unknown but it most likely occurred on May 3, 1886 when all of Marshall County became part of the state of Alabama following its annexation by neighboring Florida. Moody has experienced several changes over time including growth in both its population and economy due to industry such as aluminum production which began arriving here during World War II; however, recent declines have been documented for both residents and businesses alike with vast reductions seen in median home prices as well as job opportunities since 2010’s recession hit regions nationwide. Despite these negative trends, there are some elements still present within this community which support economic development including restaurants (including two continually operating high-end steak houses), retail shops/stores clustered around main Street along with a number of educational institutions located throughout downtown area including four universities which offer graduate level degrees: University of Southern Mississippi (USM), University ofAlabama Birmingham (UAB), Tuskegee Institute (TUSK) & Morgan State University (MSU).
