The history of Millbrook can be traced back to 1871 when John and Clara Mills bought 2,000 acres (810 ha) of land east of Birmingham for $5 per acre ($/ha). The Mills served as postmasters and trustees for the community until their death in 1922. Their three children, Clara, John Jr., and James Witherspoon continued to operate the mill until it closed in 1984. In 2000, Millbrook was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of "the most livable communities" in America. In 2003-2004, Millbrook's Michael J. Brownlow Foundation awarded over $4 million dollars to local businesses and organizations in support of arts and culture throughout the community. Today, Mill Brook remains an agricultural community with a strong reliance on corn production for its food supply. The mills have been restoring some historical mill buildings but are no longer producing goods themselves; they now run a museum that features exhibits about life in Mill Brook from 1871-1984.

Millbrook is a town in Pike County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,721 at the 2010 census. Millbrook was founded in 1852 and named for James Millwright, a landowner and banker. The first post office was established in 1856. The town became an incorporated municipality in 1907. It is located on the Mill Brook River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Birmingham and 10 miles (16 km) south of Huntsville. The milling industry played a significant role in early Millbrook development. In 1865, John A. Roebuck erected the first gristmill on the stream that now bears his name after purchasing 6 acres (2 ha) of rolling meadowland upstream from the millrace for $1,500. At that time mills were built to process cornmeal and flour into bacon, bread doughnuts and other goods for local consumers as well as export to Europe and North America. By 1870 mills had been erected at both ends of Millbrook's main street - one across from Mills Landing on the riverbank where fishing boats unloaded their catch before being transported downstream to be milled into flour or other products by Miller Brothers & Co., successors to Roebuck & Company; another just south of town along High Street nearpresent-day Park Chapel Baptist Church which helped make up much of what is now downtown Millbrook; this location made it easy for farmers to transport their produce down High Street to marketplaces such as First Baptist Church which housed a grocery store during its heyday in the late 1800s; and finally Old Academy Hall next door at 8th Avenue South where woolen clothiers such as Thompson & Baldwin manufactured items such as socks and overalls until 1975 when they closed down due to competition from Sears / Kmart stores opening up around them). During World War II most production took place within nearby Mobile because plant capacity was needed for munitions manufacturing tasks associated with strategic bombing raids against Birmingham rather than producing civilian goods like clothing or foodstuff required for war effort elsewhere. However many small businesses managed to stay open throughout the war including Canned Goods Store operated by Lila White until her death in 1949; Grapes Market run by Mrs. Ethel King until 1956 when it became known as Market Square; Hardware store operated by Jenssen Bros.; Butcher shop operated by Fenton Bros.; Russel Drugstore operated by Hamer Brothers until 1958 when it became part of Beechwood Drugs Incorporated ; Telephone service provider Powertel began operations here under contract from AT&T Corporation prior to 1984 when it went public During all these years some residents kept busy working outside their homes doing things like farm work, carpentry or plumbing while others did nothing more active than watching TV day and night while eating frozen dinners out on their lawns or listening to music through headphones on their porches while sitting inside without air conditioning during summertime especially given how hot it usually got here even with all those windows open year round particularly since there wasn’t any real water pressure anywhere near these residences back then either Consequently many people who grew up here today have no real memory of what life was like back then other than maybe going out for ice cream cones at least once during adulthood but even then they might not know where exactly Millbrook actually is today given how different everything has become over time
Governor George Wallace won the election of 1960 after running as an independent, and was sworn in on January 3, 1961. The first African American to hold office in Alabama, Wallace began his term by imposing bus boycotts in order to protest the state's new racist laws. He also proposed a bill that would have required all public schools in the state to teach anti-Semitism as part of its curriculum. In 1965, Wallace announced his candidacy for president of the United States, and faced off against Richard Nixon. After losing narrowly, Wallace declared himself a "Third Way" candidate who would respect both civil rights and economic liberties. He later served as vice president under President Gerald Ford from 1976 to 1980. In 2000, he was pardoned by then-President Bill Clinton following 18 years of prison time for perjury and obstruction of justice.
