The plane was used for many years by the Madison-based 4th Airlift Wing. It flew supplies to various military bases in Alabama and Mississippi. In 1979, the wing decided to retire the plane and donate it to the city of Madison as a goodwill gesture. In 2007, the City of Madison announced that it would be putting up a memorial plaque honoring both 4th Airlift Wing members who died in service and those who donated their aircraft toMadison over 50 years ago.

On May 9th 1902 when President McKinley visited Auburn University he delivered his inaugural address from within the campus walls of Menard Hall...a building that still stands today across from State Capitol Park
