The Jasper-based Air Force deployed a gift in memory of Sgt. 1st Class Timothy J. Ritchie in December 2009. The gift was an American made Humvee and it was donated by the Jasper-based Band of Brothers Military Association. Sergeant Ritchie, of the 9th Infantry Regiment, died as a result of injuries received during Operation Neptune's Spear, which took place in Afghanistan on October 17, 2009.

The Jasper County Air Force Museum has a history of deploying gifts to military members and families. The museum's gift history can be traced back to the early 1940s, when the Jasper County Sheriff's Office donated a model airplane to Air Force Base Fort Worth. From there, the AFB gave out planes (and other gifts) as recognition for heroism and service. In 1951, the Army National Guard donated an L-3A/C Skytrain Trainer to Air Force Base Atterbury in England. After being used by students at RAF Cranwell during Operation Overlord, this plane became one of only four American aircraft ever gifted to a foreign country (the others being two B-29s given to Chile and two F-86 Sabres given to Argentina). In 1977, the US Coast Guard donated a Tiltrotor Aerial Research Vehicle (ORV) named "DonatellO" after then-Governor Don Edwards of California. The ORV was used by USCG law enforcement officers stationed in Tonga during World War II.

A post office was established at Jasper in 1846, and it remained operational until 1915. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down part of the town after attacking Union forces stationed there on assignment from Mobile Bay Command headquarters at Fort Morgan; this event is also known as the Battle of Jasper which helped lead to secession of Alabama from the Union later that year
