In 1845, after Indian Removal policies were enacted by President Andrew Johnson following the American Civil War, many African Americans were moved from their homes in rural areas into Jacksonville where they worked as slaves until 1865 when they were Freedmen all under General Order No 1 which allowed freedmen to seek their own self- determination without being put back into chains like their white counterparts had done before emancipation.
During Reconstruction Period (1868-1877), Jaguars played an important role in helping reestablish order following the end of Reconstruction in America following the American Civil War through their participation in local government including City Councils and Mayoralties; however some aspects of this period such as economic inequality led to social unrest within Jacksonville throughout much of this era known locally as "Black Jack" economics or "the black plague". As part of efforts towards white reconciliation after World War II; Jubilee Hospital opened its doors providing medical care services free To All citizens who needed it while also improving education opportunitiesfor inner city children; Negro Businessman's Association formed which aided black business owners inside and outside of downtownJacksonville while advancements were made towards civil rights measures such as passage of Equal Rights Amendment during late 1960s & early 1970s becoming known collectively as "The Rainbow Revolution".
